Blackie's blood test results

I just want to share some good news so hope you all don't mind. The vet phoned me this morning with the result of Blackie's latest blood results. They showed a slight improvement to what they were 6 months ago - I could hardly believe it. Putting a phosphate binder with his food has worked and even ...

I'm another who finds Tanya's site hard to follow too .... I can only offer 'tea and sympathy' regretfully - knowing I'll be facing the same situation at some point as Blackie was diagnosed with Stage I kidney disease about 5 months ago - due for another complete blood/urine test in a couple of week...

Re: BARNEY BACK IN HOSPITAL TONIGHT !!!!

What a relief checking on here and reading your great news, Julie. You must feel so relieved - and so must Barney. It must have seemed like a never-ending nightmare. As for the present tribulations with Blackie - just his usual scratching habit resulting in missing fur and scab on the back of his ne...

Hi Julie ... oh my - you, OH and Barney have really through the mill over the past day or so. What a relief to see your words 'Barney's home' :D What you and Barney have been through recently make my latest tribulations with Blackie seem very trivial  So very pleased (and relieved) that the ve...

So sorry to read that poor Barney is once more going through the mill - and of course you too at what must be such a difficult time for you. Wish I could pass on some helpful info to you, but all I can do is tell you that you and Barney are constantly in my thoughts at this time and hope that little...

Thanks Mrs K ... plse let me know how much I owe you. Re: BARNEY BEEN ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN EMERGENCY AN UPDATE

I'd like to add my condolences too, Julie. Such a cruel illness - cruel for the sufferer and equally cruel for the family to watch the disintegration of a person. My mother has dementia (as well as being physically very frail) and I dread what may happen to her further down the line - or years, who ...

Re: BARNEYS CYSTITIS - VET TRIP TONIGHT - WHAT NOW ?!!

Hi Julie .... so very sorry to read that poor Barney is or has been having problems again. At least with the investigation you've outlined, you will hopefully be able to get to the bottom what causes the recurrent problems if it turns out not to be stress related. Blackie sends his love to Barney - ...

God, poor Blackie, and poor you! This really does seem to be a mystery.... Hopefully the ðental specialist will sort it out for you. Re: Aunties cat suddenly died

So sorry to read this .... such a shock to leave what seems a perfectly healthy cat, only to return hours later to find it gone from life. The situation reminds me of what happened to my mother's cat (the one before Blackie) - she came down to find Sophie dead at only 7 years of age. No idea why - M...

Re: Blackie is making himself bleed again ....

The bald spot on Blackie's forehead is still ongoing. Suggestion by the vet of putting a dab of Vaseline on the patch above his eye seemed to work - for a couple of days. Looked like it was going to heal - as long as he didn't 'attack' it again. That was too much to hope for. I didn't give up - stil...

Here we go again ,,,,

Apart from licking his belly until it now looks sore, he now has a bald patch above his left eye. Last night he also went in/out of the 2 litter trays, sometimes leaving nothing behind, but other times leaving a very tiny clump of pee - nowhere near the usual amount. He never cried out in pain ... b...

Re: Blackie is making himself bleed again ....

Seems I wasn't missed much at all ... OH did a good job of making sure Blackie had all his meds and by the time I arrived back, the fur was starting to sprout over the small bald patch on the back of his neck. He is still licking his belly which is practically bald now and he won't be stopped from d...

You both may be right - though I did notice the fur looked a bit thin when we got him home from the cattery last Sunday but didn't take a lot of notice because I guess I didn't want to face yet another episode of his scratching. At least we managed to get him to the vets for treatment before he made...

Didn't want to start yet another thread on this problem ... but it seems never-ending  Blackie was fine in the cattery, so the owner kept telling me when she sent me texts - and he looked fine when we picked him up. However, there's now the beginnings of a bald patch just below his neck - just ...

Re: Blackie in trouble again with his bladder

A belated thanks for that link, Helen. We picked Blackie up from the cattery this morning - didn't get much of a 'warm' greeting from him, I must say! Think he rather enjoyed the peace and quiet of the cattery and no doubt the fusses that Linda (owner) kept giving him. Unfortunately she wasn't there...

Wishing Julie a nice break away ... you'll be going just as we come back by the sound of it. Hadn't realised when we took Blackie on 2 years ago, just how much I'd worry about him - could never understand my mother ringing up every other day from our house when she came to stay :D

Hi Jan Sounds like Blackie is quite at home !! Pleased to hear he settled so well. I bought some Dorwest Valerian drops, which I pop in his food, its dark brown and a bit pongy, but he seems unaware. I also put some where he sleeps and between his ears now and then, it does appear to relax him a li...

Re: Blackie in trouble again with his bladder

We took Blackie into the cattery yesterday and he was put in the pen where he stayed for 3 months back in 2013 when my mother was in/out of hospital. He seemed to know exactly where he was as there were no howls from him and, best of all, as soon as his litter tray was put in the corner, he used it ...

Re: Blackie is making himself bleed again ....

OH and me try our very best to care for him - its what my mother would want and I knew it was a commitment because as cats get older, things happen (we're lucky if we can go through 4 months without something needing a visit to the vet). But changing between 2 homes for months at a time isn't ideal ...
