Re: Unexpectedly Lost My Cat
Very sad to hear of your loss and I wish there were some magic words that would make the pain go away, but I have not found any yet. I know only to well how you are feeling, having lost my Badger when he was 5 very rapidly to cancer 3 and a half years ago. Pancreatitis is a nasty disease that can co...

Re: Tickle on the tum!
Tilly prefers to have her tummy brushed and combed rather than tickled. She rolls over whenever I get the comb out, making it difficult to groom any other part of her.

I'd also subscribe to an insect repellent garden book.

Snowdrops
Pleasant seeing the snowdrops out on the banks and gardens yesterday. Pity the ones in my garden have finally succumbed to Tillyitis and given up this year!

Re: Antiseptic for tick bite?
Some useful info here: https://www.cat-world.com.au/antiseptics-safe-for-cats.html Iodine and salt water recommended (external use only), peroxide, Detol and TCP are definite no no's for cats. Whilst Germoline contains chlorhexidine which is safe, it also contains phenols which are not, so I would n...

Re: Antiseptic for tick bite?
I believe Germolene is safe to use on cats, especially where they can't lick it off. Next door used it on Tay when he got some wounds from sticking his nose where he shouldn't (Grumpy cat from up the roads dinner bowl).
Edit see latest post: I would not recommend using Germolene.

I have no experience of using any of these gadgets, though if my Badger were still alive, I might give serious thought to getting one. I don't think there is enough information in those write ups to be able to decide which is best. Some thoughts, however, based on experience with GPS systems and hun...

Poor Mouse. Not the best time of year to have a shaven neck. Tilly's fur has all regrown from her troubles back in May, but poor Tay from next door keeps on getting his neck shorn for more blood tests.

Re: My heart is still in a million pieces
I read recently that it usually takes at least 2 years to overcome grief. That said, the only way I have found to overcome the loss of a cat is to get another one, but that may not be the best solution for you.

Don't forget the late Terry Prachet's advice - make it short and something you don't mind yelling round the neighborhood whilst banging the dinner gong.

An update on this thread. Tay has been gradually improving and his anemia seems to be under control at last. Vet seems to think that at 5.3kg he is getting a bit thin. Still seems rather chubby to me, though.

Re: Which Breed is chilled and relaxed?
I would go for the Maine Coon, males especially are laid back softies, but as a Maine Coon owner, I suppose I am a bit biased! As Ruth says, you must get them neutered. Indeed, if you buy from a reputable breeder you will probably have to sign a form saying you will get them neutered and they are no...

Re: Cat Flap
If you have the hole in the wall already, that's most of the job done. £27 for a few bits of plastic seems pretty steep - you could buy several months supply of cat food for that! Would certainly build the tunnel myself rather than pay that.

Re: Cat Flap
Been doing a bit of googling about your problem. Depending on how good your DIY skills are, you may be able to dispense with the tunnel bit and make a wooden tunnel, try this blog post for some ideas: http://fittingacatorsmalldogflapthroughawall.blogspot.com/ I think wood would be better than the pl...

Re: Cat Flap
I can second Ruth's recommendation of the Cat Mate. I had one for 14 years, Misty and Honey never had any problems with it. I had to replace it because it was too small for a pair of rapidly growing Maine Coons. I also found that the locking catches could get slid over by my Maine Coons back paws as...

Poor Mousey, hope she does her job soon, even if she stinks you out in the process.
I never dared adulterate Badgers Lick e lix as I was afraid he would go off it and it would no longer drag him home to dinner!

Yes still hoping for good news about Freddie when I look on here.
I once knew an English Bull Terrier that always used to hide behind the sofa whenever fireworks went off. My little cat Sally didn't like fireworks at all and hid in the wardrobe.

Happy new year folks. We have had the whizz bangs going off at random times for several nights. Tilly has not taken much notice of them, but has been indoors anyway well before nightfall these last few days.

The most important thing you can learn is that you never stop learning. As for changing the profile, you might have noticed that mine only went back down to three cats in the household a few days ago, even though Stroppy left us months ago and was really only mine for a few months. They live in our...

Re: Cat insurance - a mind boggling maze!!!
When people ask about insurance, I always say it depends on whether you can afford to pay up to £4,000 in the first 5 years of their cats life. If you can, then do as Ruth does and put it in a savings account for them. Otherwise, it is worth considering insurance. Like Booktigger, I use Petplan and ...

Re: Lick e lix!
Badger had the chicken and the salmon ones - he slurped up both varieties equally eagerly. Like Georgia, he would have licked up the whole box at one go if given the chance! It seems there can't have been enough local cats who liked it though, as after stocking it for long enough for Badger to becom...

Re: Lick e lix!
My Badger used to adore Lick e lix as well - the only thing around that could make him abandon hunting and come home promptly! I used to have to go hunting all over the place to find shops that sold it. Tilly can't abide the stuff, so Badger always had his Lic e Lix to himself.

Hi Lilith, you may be conflating us with those great urban centers of Banbury and Oxford - we are quite benighted out in these rural parts of West Oxfordshire.
