Re: Poor little kittens

Great to hear they have improved! As regards Ronaxan, my old vet never used it, but my new one does, and I have to say I have seen some dramatic results with it..... I have never been given it for kittens though. Do you know why some vets don't like using it on kittens?

Re: Hello after a LONG break!

My mother was a human nurse! When I finished school I wanted to be a vet, but didn't make the cut. Tere were no nursing courses here in Ireland at the time. It has been my dream for YEARS...... And now, aged 40, I am finally doing it!

Re: Boys will be girls!

Sven is currently cuddled in the hallway in a catpile...... She keeps going back to the bathroom given half a chance, but we bought her a new doughnut bed, which appears to be acceptable. The bathroom is the warmest room in the house..... Which is why it is always used for newbies, sick cats, kitten...

Re: Momo/Maire is gone

Her time had come I suppose. And she had a very happy life with me. She was my very first feral, and eventually decided to sit on my lap (on my birthday no less!) after about 5 years of running from me as though I was trying to eat her! She lived outside and refused to come in for about 3 years. She...

Ah, wonderful for her AND for you! Giving meds can be just horrible for all concerned, and of course they don't understand why we are trying to POISON them eh? Well done you.

Re: Hello after a LONG break!

It's Catherine Keating.... But I have deactivated it for e moment, as it was distracting me from study, and cleaning litter boxes lol! I'll get back to it eventually, but really found it too easy to use as an excuse not to do anything productive. I used to do a lot of rescue and TNR networking on th...

Boys will be girls!

Sven is a girl. Sven appeared at a friend's colony and was attacked by the group. So Sven came to my bathroom. Sven was FROZEN (see where the name came from?) with fear for weeks. Now she is spayed (had to knock her out to determine sex lol). I got her out of the bathroom into the hallway (precursor...

Momo/Maire is gone

She was under investigation for possible causes of weightloss. Had been treated for a few possibilities, and blood test were done. Then I found her collapsed, with her rear end paralysed. She had saddle thrombosis and I. Held her as she was euthanised. The vet said it was her heart that caused the w...

Re: 1000 FIV Cats Project

Well said..... Even my new vet whom I adore....., said Lozzie should be segregated. This is what is vets are SUPPOSED to say in our litigious pus society. Madness. She was almost winking at me as she said it. My old vet cared not about the law and just went into a complete rant about culling HIV hum...

Re: old cats

It is normal to lose muscle mass as we age. But if it is severe/sudden then it could indicate another underlying problem (thyroid, diabetes, cancer, the list is long). Old cats do get thin, basically. But no harm to go to a vet to check it out. My Minnie is now about 18 and 2 years ago I saw she had...

Re: Droncit vs Drontal or Milbemax

Sadly no product will kill all the bugs lol! But if ectoparasites are not the concern, then I use milbemax. Actually I use parazole on whomever I can get it into (cost saving torture) and milbemax on the spitters. I keep a bottle of effipro to hand at all times, and sneak up on ferals as they sleep ...

Re: Glucosamine?

Just last night I read a research paper on the effects of glucosamine actually! The effects are unproven in humans (untested in cats). The marketing companies make lots of unfounded claims. having said that, a close friend with serious joint problems swears by it, and it won't harm your cat. worth a...

Re: BUTCHERS CLASSIC TINNED FOOD ? HOW GOOD IS IT PLEASE ?

I love when I find Butcher's tins! The cats love them, and they seem to thrive on the stuff. I have found them at the tesco near college (an hour away) so I stock up every week now. When my dog Jack was alive, he could tolerate Butchers dogwood tins. The hills prescription stuff never worked (had a ...

Love this Lilith! You should start a blod or column or whatever they are called these days.

Incidentally, my Coco (now deceased) chose his own name by typing it on the computer at 6 weeks of age. Then he photocopied his bum on the printer.......

Re: My baby has cancer and I'm a bit lost...

I am so sorry about your bad news. I think the same as others here..... Be guided by your vet (who seems a good one) and by Laila herself. do be aware that cats hide pain and disco fort very very well however..... Pain relief is crucial here to do the right thing by her. Given the prognosis and her ...

Val, Carlos is worse than ever! (FYI, Carlos is a crazy rooster who has a big problem with anger issues!). I thin...

Will do it now. I have a few FIV cats and opened a sanctuary. I have no official tax status and am in Ireland, so will do the best I can with the survey. I will only reply about those cats who have officially tested positive, although I know others here have it. I just don't bother testing anymore a...

Re: cat sitter or cattery ??

Also...... Just a word of caution...... Cats are escape artists...... Way more than most dogs. If you go the cattery route, do make sure it is well run and absolutely escape proof! Double doors are an absolute minimum requirement, with LOCKS on the doors. Then you have to be sure the staff actually ...

Re: cat sitter or cattery ??

If you already have a good, reliable cat sitter who you trust, I would go with that for sure. Kennelling is stressful for dogs, and even more so for cats. I worked at a dog kennels last Summer, probably the best one in Ireland. We all ADORED Dogs and absolutely loved the job, but even some dogs stil...

This is a quick update for those who know me, and an introduction to those who don't! Well, I moved house, got marr...
