You can tell us that you don't want a bell in the Special Instructions field.

Our cats don't like bells either.

Hi lilynmitz,

We make personalised quick-release collars:

Our website is being updated today to show two types of personalised collars: soft nylon and super reflective.

I was just using creosote as an example of something that could be toxic.

When it doubt, call your vet!

Re: Anyone got cats over 14 years old?

I forgot to mention that Rosie also has arthritis.

I agree about annual check-ups and blood tests for senior cats, and it's important to note that some geriatric blood tests don't include thyroid so that needs to be requested specifically.

Re: Anyone got cats over 14 years old?

Hi and welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job of looking after your cats and checking for signs of illness! :) We have two 17 year old female cats (sisters) in addition to 2 young male cats. Both Flo and Rosie have hyperthyroidism (controlled by Felimazole) and chronic kid...

Re: Question about Semintra for CRD

Thanks Carol. We're taking her in tomorrow as neither of the vets we see was available today.

It's reassuring that the cat litter eating could be a symptom of hyperthyroidism. Her last blood test showed that her dose of Felimazole was no longer enough, so we're slowly increasing her dose.

Thanks HRHFluffy. Have booked Flo in for more tests.

Re: Glucosamine?

The only arthritis product that has seems to have worked for our two old girls is Yumove Advance for Cats. It has a lot of the same ingredients that are in other products but this particular combination has worked really well.

Question about Semintra for CRD

This is a question for MarkB or anyone else whose cat is on Semintra. Flo (17) has hyperthyroidism and CRD. I asked our vet about Semintra. She said she would only prescribe Semintra or Fortekor if Flo has protein in her urine. She said that if the test showed protein in Flo's urine, she would have ...

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

Maybe when her appetite comes back on this lower dose you will find that she accepts the pill in cheese again. Fingers-crossed!

If the vet wants to increase her dose again at any time in the future, insist on another T4 test first.

Re: Any advice on giving medication to an elderly cat?

If she's lost her appetite, please tell your vet straight away. Her dose might be too high, which can be really dangerous. Which medication is she on and what was the starting dose? IMHO, some vets treat hyperthyroidism with too high a starting dose. It's safer to start with a small dose and gradual...

Flo and Rosie were both on Ipakitine and now on Vet UK's equivalent of that. I've ordered a Pronefra to try out and will also ask the vet about Semintra.

Re: how often for flea treatment

If your cat is indoor only and no fleas are present, I wouldn't use flea treatment unless you discover fleas. In the 18 years we've had our kitties, we've only had to use flea treatment 3 times when adopting new cats that came with fleas.

Pronefra for CRD

Just wondered whether anyone is using Pronefra for CRD and what you and your cat think of it. Pronefra for Cats and Dogs is for the support of renal function in the case of chronic renal insufficiency. A unique 4 in 1 innovation, Pronefra’s formula is based on the combination of 5 ingredients corres...

Re: ZOOPLUS?

I like Zooplus. We've purchased two really nice cat trees from them, as well as cat food. The only problem we've had is that they don't put sufficient packing material around canned cat food which resulted in some open and unusable cans, but they gave me a refund on those without any argument. I had...

Re: We need an unnuetered male

Please consider what this could do your girl. Giving birth is so painful that cats cry in pain. Some cats require a C-section. Some die. The male could carry a disease that could infect your girl and the kittens. Thousands of healthy cats and dogs are being killed in the UK every year because there ...
