Re: Cat stands in litter box but pees outside (!)
It could be that he is getting arthritic and unable to squat, so I would go for a covered tray and puppy pads.

Re: The Weighting Game, with Molly
Yes, renal dry can be calorie dense - I still go off something I read years ago about 20g of biscuits being equivalent to a 100g pouch, but that is quite broad. I'm sure I read that some dry foods are sprayed with fat for palatability, would explain why some do leave grease stains.

Re: The Weighting Game, with Molly
Yep, I've also had the same problem, I think my old vet said that renal sometimes has a higher fat content to compensate for the poor appetite. I've also had the opposite with senior food, poor Buster lost a load of weight when we put him on Whiskas senior, till I noticed the fat content was signifi...

If you decide to look into a catio, make sure you have planning permission, I've heard a few people recently realising that it is a requirement and having to fight to keep them

Re: Need advice - cerebellar hypoplasia / wobbly cat
I've never heard of it being passed on, and as FJM says, it's apparent from a very early age (can even be as early as 10 days), so if they seem fine at 14 weeks, I'd doubt they have it.

Fingers crossed for her - creatnine can certainly be related to weight loss as it is connected to muscle metabolism.

Re: Scratching everywhere
The only thing I can think of is experimenting with scratching posts - I tried a new one a few years ago and Lucy hated it so much she started scratching the sofa, but when I got an identical one to the previous one she was happy, I haven't dared try a different one since, I just keep getting identi...

Re: The Perfidy of the Pumkin Puss
Hard stools are likely to be kidney related, as the body sucks moisture from wherever it can, including the bowel. I love roasted pumpkin seeds, haven't managed to make my own though, a colleague's daughter used to bake us a pumpkin pie and seeds every year

Re: How often should I feed my cat ?
I've had a few cats that like to eat old dry food - Molly liked to nibble on her supper at 4am, Lucy likes to save some breakfast till after her tea, and in the morning will come and eat leftover supper despite there being fresh food downstairs!! In the beginning I would put her old bowl on the work...

Re: Calicivirus
Cats generally have calici for life, but they will have flare ups, which vary in length and intensity. It can affect them in various ways too, the most common is dental, but not unknown for it to affect their stomach (i.e. food sensitivity) or their joints either.

Re: Rescue Cat Hiding 4 weeks
Honestly, if she is an indoor only cat and you have no other pets, I wouldn't worry about de-fleaing once a month, especially with her temperament. I've mellowed a lot in recent years about de-fleaing, and I have two semi feral untouchable cats who haven't been de-flead for nearly 4 years!

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma
Well, I've had the girls 4 years now. Still can't touch them, but they do interact in their own way - Chanel has started asking me to play when I go down in the morning when it's their night out, and thanks to working from home, I normally have 5 mins to spare and oblige, although my working from ho...

I'm sorry to hear that, but if the mass was an intestinal cancer, there likely isn't anything you could have done differently, even if you'd tried chemo for it, intestinal cancer doesn't have a good prognosis unfortunately. RIP little one

Re: IBS or intestinal lymphoma
I would ask what the procedure is for an ultrasound first, I've used two vets, the first insisted on having my cat there for the whole day and sedating her, which was traumatic, the second allow it to be done in a normal appointment slot, and you can hold your cat. As the treatment is the same, noth...

Re: Advice needed
I would also be more concerned about the mass in his intestines rather than put him through blood tests for hyper-t, the anaemia is more likely caused by his mass than his kidney issues, and it could be that it's preventing him absorbing nutrients, causing weight loss despite a good appetite. Have t...

Re: Should I let him out ?
I know how you feel, Lucy has suddenly started catching moths again, I can only assume its the arthritis supplement a colleague gave me (she kept going off them, so she had just had her painkillers for a while), and part of me is pleased that she is well enough to catch them, but last week was 5 in ...

Re: For those who feed their cats Felix, has anyone noticed that their cats have stopped eating it?
Yes, two of my cats don't like the new original Felix, luckily the stock I'm getting from Amazon is the old style, I buy the mixed variety, but it might be worth trying their fish selection in the hope it is the same?

Re: Kitten Mortality Rate Per Week
I've never heard of one, given there a a lot of different factors, but I have fostered 252 cats/kittens, some years quite a few litters of kittens, and I can only remember two stillborn and two that were premature that didn't make it past 3 weeks old, but mum wasn't very good with them. To show how ...

It depends on the cat, I've had some where it worked, and some where it didn't - I couldn't live with Lucy without Feliway though. I get mine off Amazon, it is the cheapest place at the moment, although Zooplus is sometimes close.

Yes, 7 days is nothing - I wouldn't even be attempting to get close or touch him that quickly, just spend lots of time sat in there ignoring him, I do a mix of reading, watching TV and playing games on my phone with my semi ferals - I've had them 4 years and still can't touch them.

Re: Is it safe to bring a FIV+ cat outside (supervised)?
Welcome to Cat Chat, personally I wouldn't take any cat out in a backpack, I read an article last week about the rise in popularity of backpack style cat carriers, but there were concerns (unfortunately I can't find the article now), and not only is there a risk to him being immunocompromised, but b...
