Re: How to protect my things from cat spray
Is there a known issue with these cats spraying? Or is this just anticipating a possible problem? I would agree if you can give them secure outdoor access that will help reduce the stress. Have they been indoor/outdoor cats or purely outdoor? They may not take to being confined at all, let alone in ...

Re: Roof construction in my building is stressing out Casper big time
I understand it's scary, that open mouth panting is so alarming in cats. Hopefully he should learn that this noise is unpleasant but not coming into his home and calm down a little. Valerian doesn't seem very strong as a calming influence, in my limited experience it seems very similar to catnip in ...

Re: Cat with 2 homes?
I agree with Ruth, if house A was the original home then that is most likely primary territory so there would be no need from a cat's perspective to trundle over to house B. I have had a cat with two homes, years ago, but it was a fair car journey away. She lived at my mum's house and I would take h...

Re: Sphynx neuter possible complication?
Difficult to say over the internet but I would agree, if you're concerned speak to the vet. Must say I'm surprised a breeder sent him to his new home just a few days after neutering, seems a lot for the poor lad to handle surgery and a whole new place and people all in one go like that. Did your new...

A new one appeared on my local supermarket shelves recently, Crave. Seemed reasonably good. Also full refund. Cats hated it. Dog loved it. The advantage of having a dog, a handy dustbin!

Re: Advice for adopting 8-week-old kitten?
Lovely to see you again, Mollycat  I have to admit what you just said at the start seems terribly daunting to me, though -- the idea of rehoming a 6-week-old kitten. I'd feel as though I were about to shatter it just by picking it up too quickly! In any case, thank you awfully for those notes ...

Re: Litter Issues - Tried Everything
I would agree that putting more stress on her through confinement would more likely make things worse rather than better. I also agree that in her case, being so young and with this history, a scan to rule out further damage from the fall that wasn't picked up at the time might be a wise investment....

Re: Advice for adopting 8-week-old kitten?
I'm old enough to remember when kittens were rehomed at 6 weeks, barely weaned. Less time with mum has disadvantages and advantages, if you give them plenty of time and take the place of mum in teaching them about dangers and good behaviour in the first few weeks, you are likely to have a strongly b...

I believe Go-Cat is pretty much muck but as a general comment I'm pretty sure indoor cat food has two features - lower calories to cater for lower need, and higher vegetable content to compensate for not having access to grass. You can also buy grass tablets  Eating grass is a natural drive fo...

I wondered about an open tray on a slope (looking at the 'in' tray on my desk) with 3 sides but an open front end and propped up securely so as not to lose all the litter. Sounds horribly distressing for you and the cat, hope he recovers soon and figures out a way sooner to adapt in the meantime.

Molly had some kind of crash that involved yellow diarrhoea and vomiting plus seriously dramatic sudden weight loss, lethargy, etc. Tests revealed hyperthyroid...

Re: Are thrive treats meant to be like polystirene???
Never tried mine on Thrive, just too expensive, I'd rather give them little pieces of actual meat. Neither of mine would touch chicken when I got them - from 2 different homes, one of them used to be raw fed. Until Molly tried a bit of chicken kebab, then she would eat chicken but only if it was qui...

As I posted before - a godsend for a multi pet home where they eat different foods or one scoffs it all or one needs to lose weight, but also keeps wet food much fresher all day long even in warm summers. Easy to teach and adjustable and they even sell an additional shield now to block out sneaky ot...

They get you in the end, the hardest heart can't stay unmelted by the constant assault of a cat demanding to be loved. Perhaps your feelings about Tilly at the start contribute to how deeply you feel her loss now. Sounds like in such a short time Tilly leaves you a very different person to how she f...

I brought my cat home from the vet hospital when her kidneys were not working at all, we had 5 days before she needed me to call the vet to help her die peacefully. I don't know how much longer she would have had, maybe a few more days.

That's quite a history, poor love. There is an amazing story of an animal communicator who worked with a black leopard, who asked for his name to be changed. Some cats don't like using the tray if it already has something in it, or prefer to use one for poo and another for wee. I would put another tray in that corner, you could also try different types of litter.

I often wonder if illness affects our animals' senses in the same way. Whenever Boo got a bit dehydrated I would give them both tuna water. After Boo died, Molly wouldn't touch it. Now it's been nearly a year and she takes a few laps and walks away. She loved it so much but I'm sure she associates ...

That's interesting about Tilly. Molly is similar though she doesn't struggle or fight she is just slippery as a mackerel. As far as I'm concerned she is non-handling, as in I won't do anything to her that she won't let me do willingly, but at the vets she appears calm and lets them do anything out o...

Re: My cat won’t eat properly
Millions of cats lick the gravy or jelly and leave some, most or all of the meat. I have often thought they are probably not getting the full balance of everything but as far as I'm aware nobody has found any link with bad health or shortened lifespan. If you can get him to eat it, great, if he like...
