  Been there, done that, taken the tranquilizers! You think you have problems, try that in a house with more cats than rooms. Joyce Grenfell isn't in it - 'FREDDIE! Don't do that!'

Re: Possible middening? Help needed!

This is something I have not come across. But someone - I think it's Purdy, is STILL targeting the back of the cooker hob. Now I know why it is called a 'splash-back'! I have tried all sorts of things. They work for a while, then stop. The only thing that puts her off is a diffuser. I have one sitti...

Re: I lost my cat today and it was my fault

I would say it would all depend on the breed of dog. I would never introduce any terrier or hound to a cat family. The temptation to chase furry things is pretty much inbred. My whippet x collie Bonnie would chase ANYTHING that ran from her. But if it turned to face her, she went to bits. My OH's Lu...

Re: I lost my cat today and it was my fault

How awful! Poor Nenya, poor you. This is, sadly, not unfamiliar to me and although a terrible shock and tragedy for you, it is a lesson for all of us. Something similar happened to my neighbour and friend (the lady I got Freddie and Billy from). She had one dog, a Retriever who was fine with the cat...

The weather in NI broke over a week ago. The BBC were giving out dire warnings of what would happen if anyone ventured out into the sun - wear a hat smother yourself in sun block ( never mind missing out on all that free vit D!) and there was I moving plants away from the overflowing gutters and get...

Re: should our cat see his deseased brother at the vets

So very sorry to hear the news. I agree, it's probably not a good idea to take Bertie to the vet to see his brother. He may never want to go again! When my darling Tommy died (on the road) I laid him out on his towel in our old caravan and let the others come in to see him if they wanted. Most did, ...

BBC Belfast weather say it will rain tonight! I don't know where they were LAST night. For 'showery outbreaks of rain' read constant, steady monsoon! I got fed up drying off soggy cats! Whenever it rains they all make a bee line for mummy - Muuuummm I'm wet DO something! OK it's rained - when is the...

Re: Is it okay to give a little tuna juice (in their food) to a senior cat with kidney disease?

I suppose the vets sells the 'special diet' food, mmmm? ;) My Tommy always loved chicken and even as his CKD progressed a little fresh cooked chicken was always welcome. He enjoyed it and I believe it did him good. He also enjoyed a little fresh fish. If I made a fish pie, he always had a bit of cod...

That's a brave age! You must be doing something right. Janey has given you a comprehensive answer. All I can add is that my oldie, Thomas loved his sardines and that my current oldie Willow (15) will have something to eat then, ten minutes later she is back by her bowl meowing at me! Our Purdy is 13...

I was over at that garden today and took a photo of the acer. The drive in front of it is a regular width. Hard to see the sale of it from this picture.

Re: Garden plants that provide shade.

Kay, that acer may surprise you yet! Five years ago I planted one for a friend. It is now about 7' tall but a good 10' across! A bit much for a small garden. You can prune it (carefully!) The reason it didn't mention it was they like a 'softer' soil than flint can offer. You can restrict them in a l...

On Sunday Lucy came in, stood on the door mat and threw up, then walked a bit further over and threw up on the carpet - why she couldn't have done that outside I don't know. Luckily I've never had hunters, Lucy can only catch moths. And they say cats are good for our blood pressure, I'm not convinc...

Re: Kidney disease- when is it time?

I went through a similar time (as Lilith) with our Tommy. He was up one day and down the next. Fluids helped and he did like his sardines. Probably sardines in tomato sauce were not ideal, but at least he was eating. He was also a terror for turkey and duck and stole both when they were just out of ...

If it is flint and the lavenders are doing well then you would probably be OK with other Mediterranean plants. We have a large rosemary bush that our darling Tommy use to sit under - with a big smile on his face! :D The little boys seem to like the upright rosemary 'Miss Jessup' and snuggle together...

Oooh, I know just what you mean! With me it's black cats (with my OH it's any colour cat, dog, donkey, chicken or pig!) If we won the lottery I am sure we would have a farm/cattery/rest home for any passing stray! We live in a two bedroomed bungalow. Our only saving grace is a large garden surrounde...

I am sorry this has happened to you. You were just trying to help these cats. It makes me angry when people manipulate the system and wrap police, social workers etc around their little finger. We had it happen with a neighbour once. Her kids were totally out of control, but it was the rest of the n...
