Re: This has absolutely nothing to do with cats.......

Blimey - and I have been complaining about my problems with earwigs and moths :)

I spent this morning cleaning window frames etc so I can spray Dethlac everywhere (that cats don't have access too!!! ) :)

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

It was the thing for stripping out fur that was recommended on here that I had in mind. Laz tolerates it for a while, but not ideal. I am forever slipping out matts and he sometimes looks a sorry state - but is the least stressful way for both of us :) I wonder if a groomer could do a 'short back &a...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

Glad that I am not the only one that has developed an obsession with cat poo :) Carol, I know you say that Fluffy hates brushing, but have you tried anything like shedding tool? - they claim that if you thin the coat out, it can reduce shedding by up to 80% (no idea where they got their numbers :) )...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

Laz also finally went this morning and is all the better for it :)

Funny that so many of our cats had it at the same time

I think long hair makes the difference and I am convinced Laz's Megacolon was caused by long term ingesting fur/no brushing and no help when he got sick.

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

Hi Carol, My vet prescribed Peridale for Laz when he was first diagnosed, but his poos were like rubber bullets with it. It sort of worked but the poos were coming out of him in random places. Apparently fibre response has other things apart from Psyllium in. Although it bulks the poos, they seem mo...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

I think it can still cause a bit gurgling in the gut. I can send you a bit of Fibre Response to see if Fluffy will eat it. It seems very palatable. The main reason I didn't want Laz to eat it as his only dry was due to the phosphorus content (1%) when I though he had CRD, but found that a small amou...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

I think laxatives can cause discomfort but not as bad as the pain of being backed up. Osmotic laxatives like lactulose and Miralax are gentler than other harsh laxatives though. One of the VN's next door said the practice owner, used to have an elderly cat with constipation and gave him a whole Seno...

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

Great news Carol :) - I know how it can make a world of difference :) - I have a constipated boy lying next to me right now. He is off his food. I gave him some Miralax in his breakfast, so will probably have a 'movement' overnight. If it is likely to be ongoing, I can highly recommend RC Fibre Resp...

At least it sounds like no major damage and she is back home with her mum & dad. Poor baby.

Re: Fluffy in discomfort

Poor Fluffy :( I can't think of anything short term that will make her poo as an enema is out of the question. I know when Laz gets backed up it makes his legs wobbly and he even starts tapping a back leg on the ground (like thumper in Bambi :) ) and goes off food. I think all you can do is wait unt...

Re: Milk?

My Laz isn't allergic and he has a small bowl of regular milk every day. I think full-fat is more natural and it is the only kind he will drink anyway. We always buy organic milk.

Re: Gourmet Perle Mon Petit (50g) pouches

They are very clever. By altering pack sizes over time, they have managed to make a full multipack out of 2/3rds of a can :) They do have their uses though :) Might be worth doing a one-off Asda delivery shop (unless you can't bear the thought of an Asda lorry turning up rather than Ocado :) ) They ...

Re: Gourmet Perle Mon Petit (50g) pouches

I think I will have to go back for the meat ones. Well worth stocking up while they are £1 for 6 :) They would have been perfect for Alice. She loved Gourmet Perle but not Sheba. She rarely ate more than about 1/3rd of a regular pouch. It seems Morrisons only have the fish variety, but at full price...

Gourmet Perle Mon Petit (50g) pouches

No doubt Purina's version of the Sheba mini pouches 6 x 50g pouches for £1.99 which is ridiculous, but I got some in Asda for £1 a box. Ideal size for elderly cats with a small appetite or in the summer when you don't want wet food hanging around - also for fatties like my Kylie :) - She was very im...

Amazon also have most AGAIL and all gourmet perle on offer - 4 boxes fro £12 with free delivery. The only snag is you have to have 4 of the same. My sister stocked up for my mum, whose cat will only eat the standard Gourmet Perle pouches :)

Two weeks ago one of our local vets reported a cat found hanging in a tree by its collar :(

Mine don't (can't) get further than the garden so don't wear collars thankfully (I hate them anyway)

Re: Cats on medication

Alice has eased my workload although I would happily do it all again. At the moment I just have Laz's DDAVP nose drops twice a day and Felimazole twice a day + his special food. I have run out of the 1.25mg Felimazole so back to cutting the 2.5mg ones in half - which I have to do at night when the h...

Re: Cat just been neutered, lump now found?

Definitely worth getting it checked out. I had one a few years ago. They don't hurt, but the consultant said they can get worse and there is a risk of strangulation if they are bad. I had mesh put in. Not sure what they do for cats. I remember when I was little, one of my friends had a puppy with a ...

Asda is the place to shop for cat food this week

Desley already posted on the old forum that Whiskas and regular Felix are both 2 boxes for £5. I just had a look on Mysupermarket - AGAIL(+Sensations/marinades) and Gourmet Perle are all £3 a box :) :D

No idea when the offers end.

Re: Morrisons carpet freshener DANGER !

All those 'shake & vac' type products have tons of nasties in them. Even the perfume is usually limonene & linalool which are both irritants. I haven't tried it, but apparently Bicarb is the best thing for freshening a carpet. You can buy a big 1lb box of Arm & Hammer bicarb in Poundland...

Re: Hills yd food.

Apparently an underactive thyroid (Hypothyroidism) is very rare and the body can normally compensate. I'm not sure about Y/D food as you have to feed it exclusively. I know mine wouldn't eat the same food all the time. I suppose feeding it is no different to giving a set dose of thyroid meds every d...

Re: Befast-Urgent: little adorable cat looks for holiday hou

Hi Anne, Thanks for taking care of this cat. 20 days isn't a huge amount of time. Have you considered a cattery? You could also try locals vets and Cats Protection to see if they have any contacts who might be able to help. I understand that it would be better for him to be looked after in a home, b...
