Re: Buying a cat from a breeder
R and B.jpg They were 6 years old, had suffered all those years in a state of neglect. They weighed just under 3kg each when we removed them which if you know Raggies is extremely underweight!! Even after months of treatment he was left with damaged sinuses and she was blind in one eye (a consequen...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder
Don't get me wrong, we have to protect certain breeds but at the moment in the current climate it would be nice to have a few years ban to help re home the rescues. I would love nothing more than be in a position to with a clear conscience go to a breeder and get the breed I want but in all moral co...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder
Of cause we are all entitled to our own opinions and mine is that as perviously stated it is morally wrong to pay for a cat when so many die because they can't find a home purely because it isn't the right colour or doesn't look how we want or have some trait. REAL and TRUE cat lovers don't care abo...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder
I had people try and make me feel guilty because I didnt rescue a cat but at the end of the day I didnt put those cats there. If they do not fit my lifestyle then I should not be obliged to take one on just because some people cant be bothered to keep their cats or get them spayed or neutered. Blim...

Re: Getting a resacue cat
We have all colours (except grey as I won't put them on the website, we do have some) and some of the most stunning kittens on our website at the moment and still we get people coming through asking if thats all we have!!! I don't understand to be honest, kittens are kittens what does the colour mat...

Re: Buying a cat from a breeder
Although it is everything that I'm opposed to and feel that you have to be morally very compromised and a lover of a breed not a true cat lover to go to a breeder during these times of crisis when 1000's of moggies are destroyed every year I think you have a very valid point in trying to educate peo...

I suspect that if Ed has in fact contacted rescues his attitude towards them is enough for them to ignore him!! I have to say I wouldn't home to somebody with the attitude that he is displaying.....

Re: Don't know what to do for the best
Ed. You do realise that all these rescues are voluntary run and work round families. jobs and life in general plus dealing with god knows how many cats!!! I'm sorry but are you in that much of a hurry that you need to get a cat immediately that you have to line the pockets of a breeder!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

It looks like a 'fever coat' which happens usually as the name would suggest after a very high temperature. The coat usually returns to the original colour over time.

Re: new FIV owner & Gingivitis
I think it rather irresponsible of a vet to make such a diagnosis without a conclusive test to be honest!! Get here tested for FIV is the 1st step. I regularly get youngsters in the rescues with horrific mouths and gums that require full extractions. We always test such cats as it is a symptom of FI...

The weight loss is certainly a concern and one would have thought that if she was being fed elsewhere she wouldn't be loosing weight.
Personally, if she was mine I'd want a vets opinion as there is certainly a reason for her behaviour and physical condition that needs getting to the bottom of.

Re: Blind kitten
Blindness in kittens is pretty uncommon and is usually a symptom of something else. Older cats become blind for many reasons. A blind kitten should be as feisty and active as seeing kittens as their other senses can more than compensate so I would suggest this is possibly a more serious issue from t...

As Crewella says you need to keep him separate for a while post op. Male hormones can take up to 6 weeks to regress but closer to 4 from experience and introducing a hormone loaded male to the family is going to cause stress, serious friction and territorial problems and you don't want to rock the b...

Re: Should a one eyed cat be kept indoors?
Eye sight is very much a secondary sense to hearing in a cats arsenal against danger so there is no reason at all a one eyed cat cannot continue an active outside life. If you restrict his lifestyle now he will have no idea why as he doesn't rationalise one eye with a handicap like we do so its almo...

Re: Advice please re feral kittens
At 7 weeks old if aged correctly you are in a very small window of opertunity to socialise them and earn their trust so the more you can handle them the better. I would put them initially in a large dog crate so you have easy and regular access to them without having to chase them around a room. Not...

Sorry, I don't understand how you thought this person was affiliated with a reputable rescue? Surly you were put in contact with the 'fosterer' via the rescue that you contacted? 1000's of cats and kittens destroyed a year as no homes so please don't buy......
Sorry but as a person running a rescue it is just soul destroying to see people buy instead of saving the life!!!!!!!

Re: Thinking about getting a cat, need advice!
There is no issue with cats being indoor cats if that is the life they choose. Some cats are happy indoors but you can't guarantee that and as somebody who runs a rescue I will NEVER home a cat as indoor only. Even the deaf and blind cats we get are homed to homes with enclosed cat proofed gardens. ...

Re: Cats, Slugs and Salt
No advise on getting rid as I think salt is a disgusting way to deal with slugs but if Denzel is playing with slugs please make sure he is wormed with Milbemax as slugs and snails are the primary carrier of lung worm which can be fatal and Milbemax is the most effective defence.

Re: Advice on cat harnesses and leads for an indoor cat.
Yes and FIV+ cats CAN have normal outside access if they are not aggressive and not fighters. Unfortunately many rescues and vets don't keep up with the most recent research and data regards FIV which now actually states that FIV is not even necessarily classed as a 'life limiting illness' FIV+ and ...

Re: Should we get a playmate for our kitten?
Rear leg amputations shouldn't have any reduced mobility problems (unlike front legs who can struggle jumping down from height although this should still not keep them banned to the house) and so usually don't have to live as indoor cats so I would suggest there is another reason for her behaviour. ...

Has mum cat been spayed now do you know? If not then its imperative that this gets done as a matter of urgency so you will need to speak to the owner as to start with mum will soon be pregnant again and also she will be distressed about the kitten while she is still hormonal. Please take responsibil...
