Re: Pancreatitis - anxiety and worry for my boy
So sorry susand, being right never makes it any easier. And guilt is a part of grieving and if you hadn't found that to feel guilty about it would be something else, it's a need we have and all part of it. How many times do our cats just slow down a little and horrify us with guilt when we discover ...

You are aware that Mirtazipine is an antidepressant? I see one side effect is weight gain and increased appetite but also nausea and anxiety, I take it this has all been discussed and reviewed and it's definitely the teeth preventing her from eating?

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma
Having to go through old stuff about when Molly was in hospital having her RI treatment has brought into focus just how far we've come in the last three years, much more I think than the first 5. Perhaps that challenge, traumatic as it was for her and me, taught her that I will pick her up again and...

Re: Hyperthyroid, and radioiodine centres
I've had to go back through social media, it appears she moved from Hot to Cool on either the Thursday or the Friday and came home the following Tuesday, and she went in on a Tuesday and had her injection on that Thursday, so that makes it a week on HOT. However on the subject of food: All being wel...

thanks for updating. That's positive, at least it's being dealt with now and with the metacam he should be much more comfortable soon, hopefully.

Re: Hyperthyroid, and radioiodine centres
Good grief how could anyone entrust their beloved pet to people who would watch them suffer on a camera and do nothing! Understandable that they have to keep staff safe who work there all the time but you'd think they might have better personal protection to cope with special cases. Makes you wonder...

I didn't think Molly would take the y/d but she did, it's a soft mousse-like pate so you may even be able to give it using the assisted feed way, I don't know, or have her lick it from your fingers. You have my complete sympathy on both fronts, the looming treatment, and the complex needs cat as wel...

Re: Cat food
I don’t believe dry food is a very good cat food (I equate it to a human eating dry snacks all day), Dry has its good and bad points, like any other food, but be careful "equating" cats and humans, especially when it comes to nutrition and digestion. A cat is an obligate carnivore, a huma...

I think I would talk to a vet, who will most likely want you to come in but will at least be able to ask you the right questions. Just one thing, is that paw a little flat-footed when he puts it down? Is he avoiding jumping down or hesitating on landing? A vet can at least identify which joint is th...

Re: Hyperthyroid, and radioiodine centres
I was just re-reading some of Langford's detailed info and apparently the minimum stay is set by the local authority and their interpretation of the guidance on radioactivity. Home isolation is really important so that the full 4 weeks of precautions are observed for everyone else's safety, and yes ...

Was Lucy much under 12? Maybe it's HER house and however friendly she may have been in shelter this one is to be defended at all costs from all invaders! You never truly know how they are going to be, as they can be so different with different people in different environments. My ex took on two alle...

I seem to remember someone on here used Wetherby so I'm sure they will be along with some helpful experience for you very soon. My girl is also very timid and medication was out of the question, for trauma reasons. We are in the South-west and our nearest centre is Langford vet school and hospital. ...

They can really turn a surprise on us, just because their relationships are way more complex than even seasoned owners can understand. I was blissfully unaware of any issues with Molly and I didn't pick her. I rang the rescue with my long list of requirements, my spoilt brat list, and asked for help...

Re: Cat refusing meds and not eating again
There is the option of a special ultra low iodine food, or as fjm says topical applications. Longer term are you planning to have the surgery or the radioiodine, or stick with the meds? We used the food for the 5 months we were waiting for radioiodine and that was fine but there is only one, made by...

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma
In the end, those of us that have had these nervous cats understand that we love them on their terms, not on ours, and know that those small actions that are perfectly normal for a well socialised cat are big steps for our cats, and each one is a great delight to us because of it. Absolutely. Not o...

Re: Coco and Chanel dilemma
I think it is. With extreme timid cats where we cannot reasonably expect the classic normal signs, being awake to their way of connecting is so important. Now you mention it I remember a toy mouse on the bed. But Coco just made an active and free choice to interact with you. That's a pretty big deal...

Re: Ear polyps
15 months ago I didn't think I could ever cope with an active dog having cruciate ligament surgery, but I did. 3 years ago I was beside myself while Molly spent 2 weeks in Langford having her radioactive iodine, yet here we are. We get to a point where avoiding becomes harder than taking the plunge....

Re: Prolonged Cat Diarrhea
Ah that makes a bit more more sense, increasing the steroid. Years ago all human antibiotic prescription was accompanied by a vitamin B, because of the effect of the antibiotics on the stomach. Why this practice ceased I don't know, but it helps cats too, though the injection bypasses the digestive ...

Re: Prolonged Cat Diarrhea
What else have you had other than antibiotics? Antibiotics play hell with the gut lining so vitamin B should be given by injection, just for a start, regardless of the root cause. You can also get pastes like Pro-kolin that can really help calm the gut lining down. The problem with the Dire Rear is ...

Re: CKD numbers
Yes that is true, the larger the surface area the more the bacterial load and the higher the histamine, hence the shorter shelf life. For people with histamine intolerance (or more accurately overload) it's important to buy as fresh as possible and as large a piece as possible. Molly tends to have h...

Sodium and fat https://cooperpetcare.com/can-cats-eat-pork-is-pork-bad-for-cats/ but is that natural sodium or because some parts are made into bacon and ham? Re: CKD numbers
Think this warrants some further digging then. I always assumed the reason pork wasn't generally given was something about worms, no idea if either of us has the right information, but in Germany you get pork cat food and so I thought it might have been an English peculiarity. We had pork chops last...

I don't know why I'm restricting my thinking to mince! She is always happy to eat nibble size pieces of raw or cooked chicken and lean pork, duck (as your salmon in Hollandaise, a bit much for a cat!) so I can perfectly well finely chop any muscle meat and add Felini and other powders. I've no idea ...

Ah I did ask hubby about investing in a mincer - which I thought a great idea - but having been a butcher by trade was against the idea. He may have been thinking of us of course, rather than the animals, but I like the idea of it being ultra fresh and knowing exactly what's gone into it. I recently...

Option 3 is what we've been doing so far but a kilo is quite a lot. Molly was more hesitant to jump but when she stopped going on her favourite sunbathing shelf I knew I had to do something and the steps are a big big help. I accidentally bought some hydrolysed collagen for the dog thinking it was a...
