2 adults and 4 kittens needing homes - HELP!

Post by aggis75 »

Last year a stray cat gave birth in the abandoned neighbouring property to my own. I noticed the kittens playing in the sun one day and the mother was emaciated so I fed her and over time the kittens as well. The mother eventually disappeared and so did two of the kittens and I have continued to feed the remaining two to this day. They live outside but come in the house when they want to eat. I contacted several charities about getting them neutered for free as I am on a very low wage and a single parent. Never received a response. Recently the female became pregnant and I trapped her in my flat for a few weeks until she gave birth and then let her in every time she wanted to feed them and wouldn't let her take the kittens outside. The youngest died soon after the birth but the other four are incredibly beautiful and friendly things. They have just turned seven weeks old. I have asked everyone I know if they want one but there has not been a single taker. I can't provide ongoing care for these animals and once again have had no response from the RSPCA and Cats Protection are full (they suggested this forum). The kittens are in good health although I do have to regularly manually deflea them because of their mother living outside. I have been deworming them every two weeks but that is the only medical care they have received. I hope someone can help. I don't want to just have to put them outside and start the kitten process all over again (two of them are female). The mother is very friendly and could also be rehomed. I just can't have her in at night because it upsets my daughter who doesn't like the purring on the bed (it is a rubbish authority flat with no bedroom doors so I can't separate. The male adult is also incredibly affectionate and loves to be hugged but so far only by us - he seems scared of other people although is in no way aggressive. He would make an excellent farm cat though. Can anyone help?

I'd ask cats protection for a voucher to get mum neutered, she may already be pregnant again.

Thanks I will definitely try this. I don't want things to become any worse. What is the earliest she can get pregnant again (the kittens are 7 weeks)

In theory, they can come in heat days after giving birth, I've only had one mum cat come into heat before being neutered, her kitten was 8 weeks old. However you have 2 unneutered cats which is why I said she could already be pregnant

You might also wish to check out our Neutering Information page for details of how and where to get low cost and subsided neutering: https://www.catchat.org/index.php/cat-k ... euter-spay
