Eastbourne, East Sussex, forever home for adult cat

Post by Aoife303 »

Hello,

We sadly lost our lovely cat Matilda recently, following a long term illness (being treated) that very suddenly got much worse, and now have a cat shaped hole in our home into which we would love to welcome another cat. I have always had cats, for the past 12 years, including kittens, older cats, and cats with health issues, and grew up with cats from an early age.

The difficulty we have, aside from the very few rescue cats currently available, is that we have a baby, and all the cats we've seen have required an adult only home or older/teenage children.

We are confident and experienced at managing the relationship between our baby and a cat, ensuring both are safe and happy, that the cat has its own space and security, and that our son understands boundaries and consent, and learns to recognise cat behaviour and understanding that socialising is on the cat's terms, not his. He and Matilda got on great (photos attached, she was more keen on him than he was on her at first!), though we know a different cat may want to have a less close relationship, and that is completely fine as well.

We have a patio garden where our last cat was very happy to bask in the sun and chase sparrows, and our old cat before her would explore the gardens beyond, and sit up on the shed roof. It's not a very cat dense area, I've only ever seen one other cat visit our back garden, though I do see some out the front (I'd not let a cat out that way, as the road there is busier). We always have a litter tray, and are fine with cats who are more homebodies than explorers.

We're open to adopting from a rescue or helping a direct adoption from somebody whose circumstances mean they must part with their pet, offering a loving forever home. We ideally would like a cat who is between 2 and 10 years old (possibly older if in good health, but insurance costs seem to spiral for the older cats!). We'd prefer not to jump straight in to another poorly cat situation, still raw from the difficult end our poor Matilda had.

We can travel across the county, and potentially into Kent, Surrey and West Sussex for the right cat.

Please consider our family if you have a cat you think would suit our situation.

Hello,

Thank you for offering a home to a cat in need.

The following pages on the main Cat Chat site might be useful for you, if you haven’t already seen them:

See Cats Needing Homes near you here: https://www.catchat.org/adopt

Find your local rescue & rehoming organisations here: https://www.catchat.org/shelters

Hope that helps, and good luck with your search.
