My 2 year old just had a fit

Post by lillycob »

Hi my 2 year old neuteured boy Melvin has just had a fit, lasted probably 2/3 minutes slight mouth foam, he was lying on the wash basket at the top of the stairs usual place when it came out of the blue, ran down stairs and fell on his side to fit. This is the second one I have seen him have the other probably 6 months ago. He has access to outside at will, do you think he ate something? He came round in about 10 minutes to normality again. He's a lovely smiley cat, is fine now and am keeping him in for a while, didn't poo or wee himself.

So sorry to hear this. It must be really distressing. I really think you need to get him to the vet as soon as possible. If it is something he's ingested, it needs to be dealt with quickly, so get him to the vet today. No later.

If it is an underlying medical condition, the sooner it's diagnosed, the sooner it can be managed with treatment, as it would be awful if this happened outside leaving him vulnerable.

That must have been really scary, poor boy. I would get him to the vets pronto as well - either way you need to get to the bottom of why this is happening to him. I hope he's OK.

Oh the poor little guy :( Given that this is the second seizure he's had with such a large gap between the two (6 months) I'd be more inclined to suspect he has an underlying medical condition than has ingested something.

Either way, I'd get him to the vet as soon as possible for investigations as seizures like that are not something to take lightly.

I hope he's OK, please do keep us updated!

Hi thanks for your response, he is fine now as if nothing happened, I am at the vets in the morning with a stray cat I have had for a week, to be neutured and teeth done so will speak to the vet then about Melvin, he came from a farm, so possibly inbreeding is a reason, although the farmers wife had eventually had all the females done,so the 2 litters we had Melvin and Annie from, were the last there fortunately. He's always been special, he was from a litter of short haired kittens and he's long haired, they all rough and tumbled and he did his own thing, they named him and were very fond of him.He is a real character and loves us dearly, as we love him.So will do some research and speak to the vets about a course of action.Annie is a tabby, same age as Melvin and they are very close being raised together, she talks a lot lol, quite a slight young lady and would probably look like a farm cat except she's very well looked after. She shows no signs up to press of this awful thing. thanks again for your replies, will keep you posted.
