New female cat and introducing advice please?

Post by andy5898 »

Tomorrow we are off to meet Gwen. She is 18 months old and completely ginger. My wife doesn't know we are going to meet her tomorrow as its a surprise. We lost our 21 year old Ginger Female cat Cuddles in August and I said we have Pebbles and Milo we wouldn't be getting any more cats. However I saw Gwen on a rescue page and it was like Cuddles was there telling me to rescue her somehow Cuddles lives on.

We have Pebbles (my princess who is 3) and Milo who is 6. I just wanted to see introductions is it going to be tricky will Pebbles be ok with another female cat saying that she has only been the only female cat since Cuddles went in August so in theory she should be quite accepting. I don't believe Milo will be an issue he is as laid back as they come. I just don't want Pebbles's nose being put out of joint. I have feliway at the ready and we wont be bring her home until a week or so, so should have plenty of preparation time.

Any advice welcome and the other reason for my post was to finally see in black and white that our Cuddles had passed on its taken us ages to begin to get through it every day something reminds us of her.

Just a thought. When you go to see Gwen could you take a couple of old towels, blankets with your kitties scents on them. Let Gwen smell and rub her scent on them then leave one with her and bring the other back and leave it for the others to sniff, ever so casual like! I don't know but it might help in intros later?

I hope it all goes well for you. Good luck.

That is a good idea to start the scent-swopping now. Hope you manage to keep the surprise! :D

Congrats, and good luck. And I'm sorry for your loss of Cuddles, they do leave a huge cat-shaped hole in your heart when they pass on. xx
