Pronefra for CRD

Post by Marla »

Just wondered whether anyone is using Pronefra for CRD and what you and your cat think of it.

Pronefra for Cats and Dogs is for the support of renal function in the case of chronic renal insufficiency.

A unique 4 in 1 innovation, Pronefra’s formula is based on the combination of 5 ingredients corresponding to 4 properties.
- Calcium Carbonate & Magnesium Carbonate – Limits the bioavailability of phosphate.
- Chitosan – Binds uraemic toxins
- Polysaccharides of Astragales – Helps maintain normal kidney architecture.
- Natural Vasoactive Marine Oligopeptides – Helps to maintain balanced blood pressure.

Pronefra for Cats and Dogs has been developed to be highly palatable for optimal compliance, allowing a higher consumption rate than other solutions.

It's not one I've come across - I have Lily on ipakitine and fortekor, and she's been on the latter for several years now which seems to be doing the job.

I haven't heard of it. It sounds a bit 'alternative medicine' to me. As you probably know, the first two ingredients are just phosphate binders. The other two sound like prebiotics.

The latest treatment is Semintra. My vet swears by it and he prescribes instead of Fortekor now. He also switches cats over from Fortekor to Semintra. Laz is on it, although he hasn't been diagnosed with kidney disease, just 'old' kidneys.

Thanks lilynmitz and MarkB for your replies!

Flo and Rosie were both on Ipakitine and now on Vet UK's equivalent of that. I've ordered a Pronefra to try out and will also ask the vet about Semintra.

Sorry Marla, I've not heard of it either - I'd be interested to hear what you think when you've tried it.
