I'm so very sorry, Mark. That's a beautiful picture of such a lovely boy. You made all the difference in the world to his life, and took the same care over his passing, he was so lucky he found you. (((hugs)))
Rest in peace beautiful Laz. xx

Really sorry Mark. It will have been a great comfort to him to have you all with him on his last night. You were lucky to have him and he was lucky to have you. The care and love you gave him meant that he had a few unexpected happy years added to his life.
Sleep well beautiful and much loved Laz Xx

Im so sorry Mark, you must be feeling bereft. How lovely that you all spent his final night with him, I know that will have made a difference, both to him and to you. He was a very handsome lad in his prime, and that's how he deserves to be remembered. Xxx

Dearest Mark
Of course, I was expecting to read this today, but it has still hit me seeing your post.
You are quite right to have posted the gorgeous photo showing how you will remember him. How wonderful that you all spent last night together.
This has been the worst week I can ever remember of Cat Chat. Unbelievably sad.
RIP Laz. Play young, fit and well at the bridge.
Xxx

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
Thanks again everyone. It wasn't until he had gone, that I saw just how tiny and frail he was at the end. The vet and nurse were brilliant. As anyone who has been in this situation knows, the grief comes in waves and there are so many illogical things that mess your head up - like feeling guilty clearing for their things away, could I have done anything differently etc.
What we do know is, he won't be struggling through the night as he was last night.
Our best boy x.

I totally understand Mark...just clearing away our last boys dishes was enough to trigger the grief and guilt all over again.....it's part of the process of grief and it hurts....I so feel for you.....xx

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
I think that is probably one of the most common reactions Mark and I suspect that quite a few of us have that thought go round and round in our heads even years later - I know I do (((hug)))MarkB wrote: could I have done anything differently etc.
And that is worth more than anything and hopefully reassures and comforts you that you did what was right for you boy and that you couldn't have done anything different. xxxMarkB wrote:What we do know is, he won't be struggling through the night as he was last night.

A bit late ... but I really am so saddened to read this thread. Something all cat owners have to go through at some point ...my thoughts are with you, Mark.

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
Thanks everyone
Really tough at the moment, but I know it does get easier. We both look towards the end of the sofa when we go down to the lower ground floor where he spent 99% of his time - as did Alice before him.

Beautiful photo Mark. What a gorgeous boy he was. Why don't you get it printed on something like you did with Clapton. We're all thinking of you. These early days are the worst aren't they.

You must miss him terribly, especially as you must have had so many little routines due to his health. It does get better, it just takes time. Beautiful pic. xx

What a beautiful photo.
You will keep looking at the end of the sofa for a long time yet. It's only natural. Don't be hard on yourselves.
Take care x

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
What a lovely picture, more a portrait than a snapshot. It shows a cat of character.
Funny how they all have their favourite spots. Bob used to share his hammock with Lily. But since she has been gone, he hardly uses it.

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
it's been the other way here - Trigger spent his last month in the top bed of my cat tree, and died there, but the evening of his death Tiffany got in it, and is there much of the day and night
I'm glad really, as instead of looking at an empty space and imagining poor Trigger there, I see a great lump of living breathing ginger cat
I think if you truly love cats the continuity of caring for one after another is in a way a comfort, as it's part of the natural progression of things
I know you will miss Laz, Mark, but will take comfort in caring for Dom and Kylie, and the tortie girl too if she is staying

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
So sorry to hear about the lovely Laz, Mark. He had such a happy life with you and is so much part of your family. It must be so hard not to see his little face every morning, but you did him a kindness and he is forever in your heart. I think the picture idea is a lovely one - one of your shots on photo bucket showed him in a black frame, which I thought looked stunning. Sorry to have taken so long to see this post. My thoughts are with you. X

Re: Laz has reached the end of the road
Sorry, I forgot to thank you all for the messages. He was a lovely boy and we will never forget him. Still hard to believe he has gone sometimes. I miss the way he had me running in circles for him
I guess life goes on and we have a short term foster girl arriving on Thursday. We can never replace the ones we lose though.

I can imagine how much you miss him, you put so much effort into his care. I always had a soft spot for him from the way you spoke about him. xx
