Can kitten overheat from having a sock on her?

Post by Coco »

Hi

I m new to the forum. My six months old Coco has been spayed on Monday but today she pulled out a stitch in front of them. We tried the collar and she got rid of if. I read on the forum to cut a sock and put it on the cat. It s a warm sock but it was the largest we can find. She hates it though but I cut the elastic so it doesn't restrain blood circulation. My worries is can she overheat from it? She has long hair too. I added a picture to show you but don't know if it worked though. The sock has come down a bit now, it s not covering so much. Any advice welcomed as I m worried I m doing wrong.
Picture won't work it s too big
Thanks

Maddy

Hi and welcome to CC. I wouldn't worry too much about Coco. At that age they 'mend' very quickly. I had that problem with a dog once. I could just not get her to sit still and she pulled a couple of stitches. But she was fine.

As for the sock, when Bob had his OP he was swathed in bandages for weeks. He too was fine. The biggest problem I had then was keeping his bandages clean!

Let us know how you go on and, when you have sorted out how to do it, I'd love to see a photo. :)

Hi there - they are awkward little gits, aren't they? I once had a Siamese, a mature girl (she'd been destined for a breeding career but being perhaps the only frigid Siamese in the history of Siamese, I got her spayed) and she pulled out ALL her stitches except one; I was horrified and rushed her to the vet who said, 'oh, don't worry unless the incision gapes' and that was that. She was fine.

And as for a friend with (wouldn't you know it?) another Siamese, this girl was spayed too and this being in the days when they bandaged them, she came home all swaddled and bound up. The bandage never budged and in due course Rosie went off to the vet to have her stitches out.

The bandage came off and the vet was poised to do the deed. Only he couldn't. Not a stitch remained. The little horror had somehow, secretly, got her nose under that tight bandage and whipped them out by herself.

She too was fine.

Good luck with your girl - I'm sure she'll be fine too and like Bobby's girl I'd love to see the pic of her wearing her sock! :)

Thanks for your replies. For whatever reason, it says the picture is too big or not the correct amount of pixels so I m lost lol My OH didn't like the sock on her, he said it was a bit tight and he was scared to do damages to her insides so we cut the sock off. We' ll see tomorrow if she took the rest. It doesn't look infected so far but will ring the vet who would want to see her. She s supposed to have her stitches removed on Wednesday so she s half way through. She hates the 20 minutes car journey though so it will be annoying to see the vet if two stitches remain. I have to say they are very lose and when she took it off she just pulled it without any effort. Will keep you posted.

I use picresize, it is free to use and I put it on favourites. Click on 'browse', chose the picture from your files, 'continue', then where it says 'custom' chose max size 1000 and 256 kb. There are other ways, but I find this handy. Don't forget to 'save to file' it will then go into downloads.

Sounds a bit of a phaf, but I prefer it to other sites that try to sell you stuff! Good luck.
