Infected wound??
Hi i have a 16 month old cat called Koba. He had an accident last week and needed a back leg amputating. He didnt move for 4 days but he has found his feet in the last few days. Today me and my son noticed his wound doesnt look too good. He hasnt touched it until today, he has been licking it, there looks like there is a little hole in a part of it and its hot to touch. Does this mean its infected? He is due back at the vets tomorrow afternoon for a check up. if it is infected, will he be ok until tomorrow ?

Best to get him back to the vet ASAP. Might be nothing to worry about ( hope so) but in my experience with Bob, he needed AB's. Heat is a sign of infection.
Bob took a while to heal - probably his FIV status, but he zooms around everywhere now. He was stalking and chasing birds today. He is just as fast with three legs as the others with four.

He does have a check up tomorrow, he seems ok in himself, He isnt complaining or anything, It might be just me being over protective of him. If he gets any worse then i will take him straight there. Thanks for replying. I will let you know how he gets on xx

Cats don't complain. They have evolved not to show outward signs of illness as it makes them vulnerable to predators and rivals, so they just tough it out. I have seen cats with quite serious medical conditions (including cancer) who really don't shown much, or indeed any, outward sign of illness. The fact that "he looks ok and is doing all the usual stuff" does not mean he is ok. The fact that the wound has become infected really shouldn't be understated, as the infection, left untreated, will spread and could cause serious complications. The poor lad has just been through major trauma and had major surgery, and needs to be nursed carefully through this.
I hope the vet visit went ok and that he's now on antibiotics, but do keep a careful eye on that wound and other indicators of pain/infection (eg lethargy, loss of appetite, changes in toileting) and take him back again at the first sign of problems, rather than waiting for the next check up. Purring can also be a sign of pain, so don't let purring alone fool you into thinking he's fine..
