Shall I get Martha spayed
Shall I get Martha spayed
Hi ,
I recently adopted Martha and welcomed her into my home and life. She is about 2 years old but she has not been spayed yet.
She is a house cat and I have assured by a vet that shes in no pain just calling for a mate.
So do other members think its woth getting her spayed or shall i leave her as she is.
Many thanks

Yes, definitely spay. An unspayed female won't be in pain, but she'll be in a good deal of discomfort, physical and mental; she'll be irritable, frustrated, probably off her food, and restless. I've known unspayed females who've sprayed like toms when in heat - it isn't just the boys who enjoy using their little water pistols! Left unmated she will keep on coming back into 'call' as it's called - and they DO call lol. I often hear them yowling up and down the street like little banshees. No cat in this state is good company; she might crave affection because she's hoping any contact will lead to mating, but her mind is on the lads, not you, whereas, spayed, she will be free to enjoy your company and friendship. It is awful to have to let a girl go to the vet's for the day for her operation, but you'll have her back in no time, recovery is usually swift - and she'll never have to go through that again.
Wishing you and Martha many happy years together

I am sure the little one will be fine. While ever she remains unspayed she increases her chances to get mammary tumors and is great risk of pyometra a life threatening infection.

Re: Shall I get Martha spayed
Hi martha is doing ok. I took her neck brace of as it was making her unhappy and uncomfortable. Shes eating which is good. I just cant wait for her fur to grow back again. I hate seeing her so unhappy. I feel so guilty but I know its for the best for her in the long run

Re: Shall I get Martha spayed
Is she unhappy because of the neck thingy, the 'cone' I call it. Some cats don't need it; if she's not interfering with the incision she'll be fine. Keep an eye on her of course but most cats have the sense not to pull out stitches or nibble at the surgical 'glue' some vets use. In fact my vet doesn't send them home with a cone. I'm glad she's eating; it all sounds nice and normal.
Yes, I hate, really hate, to see them come home with all their flank shaved, though they don't give a damn; like you I can't wait for the fur to grow back. Please don't feel guilty; you really have done the best thing for her and the worst is over for her now; she'll be feeling better with every day.
All the very best, give her a fuss from me
