Cat Drooling

I got up this morning and was not greeted as usual by my 12 year old cat, I went downstairs and found her on the sofa drooling from her mouth with her head lowered feeling sorry for herself. I cleaned her mouth but she seemed sore to be touched. I lifted her and put her on the bed were she just sat there. She has not been sick nor did she have diahorrea - she was fine the night before but had been eating grass to make herself sick but she ate as normal.

I took her to the Vet who examined her and everything seems normal inside but she had a raised temperature. She was given and anti-sickness injection and I took her home. She has not eaten and again she is on the bed sleeping. I asked if it could be furballs but the Vet was not sure so I will put cat malt on her paw when I get home from work.

She has had furballs before but I have never seen her drooling as she had been this morning. When I left her earlier she seems exhausted and just wants to sleep so thought it best to give her some peace at home and I came to work for a few hours. She was treated for Triaditis a few months ago and I thought it had returned but the Vet said her internal organs are not unusual or swollen.

Anyone have any ideas what could be the matter with her.

Drooling in cats can be an indicator of pain, well done for getting her to the vet so quickly. In my cats, this has tended to point to dental issues (and more.) What did he say about her teeth?

She had 4 teeth removed last year and the Vet checked her teeth also - she has a touch of gingivitis but nothing that required immediate attention. I have never seen her drool like that before and anything that seems unusual with her I would take her straight to the Vet for investigation.

Could it be a blade of grass stuck in her palate? I have heard of this causing drooling, and getting infected

Thanks for the responses - that is an interesting thought about the grass. Jet is fine now - I put cat malt on her paw for 2 days and she has been to the toilet and seems OK. She is eating as usual and going out so whatever it was seems to have past but she seems to be getting sick on a monthly basis - not sure if it is furballs as she will not tolerate me grooming her - I get so far with her and then she starts hissing and lashing out with her paw. I have tried a brush, a grooming glove and my hand but after a while she will either run off or lash out at me.
