My mother-in-law's cat (young adult female) used to spray all over her husband's electric riser/recliner chair. The thing got horribly rusted and even damaged the carpet. She's got rid of the chair and got a brand new carpet and for a year now her cat has not sprayed......but she's started again. This time it's the electrics by the TV. We think its the electricity that sets her off.
Does anyone know of any facts behind this? If it is electricity then why does it set her off? Is there a way of counter-acting it?
What's she got against electricity?

WATT???
Shocking!
Sorry!
Yes, honestly. It IS a problem, I agree. I had a horrible cat (neutered female) who sprayed; once she zapped a plug point and everything had to be switched off while the stinky wet point got taken out and dried off. By torchlight, naturally; she waited until after dark. Just not funny though; it's dangerous.
I've read other posts on here about cats spraying on electrics. So many electrics are spray-height; a pack of those 'child-proof' plug insert thingies might not come amiss for any unused points and perhaps even wrapping vulnerable connections in plastic and duct tape might be a short-term solution, or in the long-term encasing in that plastic boxing that electricians use, well-caulked so as to be wee-proof.
Awkward little gits, what goes through their minds eh? i wish you and your Mother-in-Law all the best

Re: What's she got against electricity?
I don't know the reason behind it but Purdy went through a phase of peeing on the microwave and occasionally the top of the cooker which is gas but has an electric socket next to it.
Willow favoured a particular double socket in the caravan and, as it is linked to the house supply has blown the house fuses on a number of occasions. Thankfully she hasn't done it recently.
Funny thing is Bob, our only Tom never sprays!
Hope someone can suggest a reason (and solution) before we get a fried kitty!
