Cyst

Hi. We have adopted an 11 year old neutered tom. His previous owner took him to the vet a few weeks ago with a cyst which the vet drained. He said it may fill.up again and it has very quickly. I think it will need removing. Does anyone know if this can be done under local anaesthetic?

Hi Jano and congrats on the new arrival. While only the vet can tell you this, depending on where the cyst is and how big, I'd think local anaesthetic would be very unlikely to be used; cats get too scared; they wriggle; a vet can get the job done, if removal's necessary, far faster when the cat's sedated.

Hi, I’m not sure, my very first cat had a cyst suddenly appear which was quite large. The vet burst it and told me to keep the wound open by gently keeping it parted and bathing it with salt water a few times a day for so many days so it didn’t fill up again. Not very nice to have to do, but it was ok in the end. Hopefully it will be a simple job for your vet, do let us know how you get on. Fusses to the little lad x
