Cat's strange behaviour

Post by arlethalazarini »

My cat has recently become increasingly strange in its behavior. He meows only at night. Castrated, not accustomed to the street. I can’t figure out what is the reason for such incomprehensible behavior.

Hi and welcome. How old is he? Some elderly cats miaow like this for apparently no reason; it can signal the onset of deafness or feline dementia. I've had two like this; one would wake up in a sort of dream, howl several times, and then realise where she was and get on with life as usual. It sounds strange, but mercifully the cat isn't usually in distress.

All the best with your boy.

It can be random or it can be something, as Lilith says a touch of dementia or disorientation, hearing going a bit. Mine calls when we go to bed most nights when she finds herself alone, because they boys get on the bed with us and that's overcrowded for her. But some hyperthyroid cats call a lot especially at night. You say your cat is not accustomed to the street, have you recently moved house? If so the light at night will be different and could have triggered this behaviour.

Just to add to LIlith and Mollycat's replies, if your puss isn't familiar with the street, it could be cats outside setting him off. We keep ours in at night but our younger male cat goes bonkers if he sees a cat in the garden.

Here are some tips maybe can help you communicate with your cat

https://www.cutecatsforyou.com/communic ... -your-cat/

Watch your cat’s tail
1. If the cat wags his tail sharply from side to side, it means he’s angry or wants to play: It’s best to leave him alone.
2. raised upward and curled at the end: your cat is happy.
3. The fur on the tail juts out in different directions: he’s very excited or feels threatened.
4. The tail is lowered toward the ground: fright or guilt.
5. The tail is straight but inclined at a low angle: slight aggression or fright.
6. The tail sticks straight up, back bent to form an “N”: a sign of extreme aggression, occurs during self-defense.
7. The tail vibrates slightly: the cat is agitated and glad to see you.

Look at your cat’s eyes
8. A slow blink indicates that the cat is calm and feels comfortable and safe.
9. A direct look when a cat looks you directly in the eye, he trusts you and is comfortable being around you.

Identify communicative behaviors
10. Butting you slightly with its head is a sign of friendliness. Your pet is in love with you.
11. Cats often move from one paw to another when they are happy or want to play.
12. If a cat licks you, it’s a definite sign that it trusts you and considers you part of its family.
13. If a cat rubs against you, it is marking you as its territory and property.
14. Poking with a wet nose is an expression of attachment. It indicates your cat feels comfortable and safe being around you.
15. When a cat rubs its head, side, or tail against you, it is just saying hello.
16. When your cat bites your hair, it’s simply trying to clean you. It is another strong sign of love and trust.

Other gestures
17. When a cat sticks its tongue out slightly and licks itself, it’s worried or anxious.
18. If a cat raises its node up and throws its head, it’s saying, “I see you.”
19. A cat might press its ears against its head if it feels scared, worried, or wants to play.

Listening to your cat
20. A long sound (a mix of purring and meowing) is a more insistent request or demand.
21. A loud sound often indicates an urgent demand (for instance, you cat needs more food).
22. A low meow is a complaint or indication of dissatisfaction. also, it might mean your cat is ready to fight.
23. A medium-length meow might be a request for water or food.
24. A purring or vibrating sound indicates a desire for close contact or attention. cats purr for various reasons, but most often they do it when they are happy.
25. Cats generally greet people or announce their presence with a short sound.
26. Lengthy meowing indicates that your cat is very glad to see you.

I hope these tips can help you.
