Not good. Cats are so sensitive to many things. I worry about most things with them. Pleased the cat was ok.

All those 'shake & vac' type products have tons of nasties in them. Even the perfume is usually limonene & linalool which are both irritants. I haven't tried it, but apparently Bicarb is the best thing for freshening a carpet. You can buy a big 1lb box of Arm & Hammer bicarb in Poundland (it says baking soda on the box as that is what they call bicarb in America) PS - If anyone is interested, they have a Hoover brand steam mop in Sainsbury's at the moment for £30

I've always avoided using unnecessary household chemicals, especially since I've had my cats, and 'carpet freshener' really doesn't seem like an essential. Bicarb, as Mark says, is a good deodoriser, and vinegar is great for cleaning things like water marks/limescale. Heavy use of antibacterials/bleach etc isn't good for us either, it has knock-on effects for the immune system.
