Urinary crystals - expensive diet!

My 7 year old darling Bailey has been diagnosed with urinary crystals and the vet recommended switching to a urinary tract diet. I have done this, and he is quite happy eating a mixture of both wet and dry urinary tract special food. However, I'm finding it really expensive! Roughly double the cost of his regular food. I was wondering if anyone has tried other treatments, such as Cystophan or Feliway Cystease, with success? I would be really grateful for any advice/shared experience!

Are you getting his food from the vet? Despite being called prescription diets, you can actually buy them online, which works out cheaper, although sometimes you have to buy 4 boxes at a time.

We get all our special foods from Pet Drugs Online wherever possible. Another online place was selling one of our foods £53 a 5kg bag against RRP of £55 but we get if from PDOL for £35 - it's a massive difference, just be sure to google around. Also most vets stock and recommend one brand, but there are many out there and although they do a similar job, most cats have their preferences.

I haven't had to feed anyone urinary crystal food but we have had reduced calorie weight loss food, ultra low iodine hyperthyroid control food, lots and lots of renal food and some with joint care support, and despite the off-putting highly processed ingredients these foods really do make a huge difference to a cat's health and are worth the price for what they do.
