My cat, 16, was diagnosed with a tumour, however condition is improving. Should I get a second opinion?

My cat, 16, was diagnosed with a tumour, however condition is improving. Should I get a second opinion?

Two weeks ago, my 16 year old cat Lucy suddenly started eating very little, when using the tray was pooping a very small amount, had lost weight, was very lethargic, and is also eating cat litter, which I know can mean a deficiency. We thought it was constipation. We took her to the vet on Saturday, and the vet diagnosed a large growth in her abdomen, the size of an orange, which she said she could feel. However, they didn't scan her or do any tests or anything. Also, ever since, Lucy has started eating more, is more alert, and today pooped a more normal amount. This has made me wonder if she has been misdiagnosed, and is simply constipated. Should I get a second opinion, or should I gone with the first opinion?

Did the vet say what sort of growth it is? You can get a referral to a specialist vet to confirm, or ask a vet to do an ultrasound.

They said it was cancerous, though as mentioned, they did no scans or tests. They said though that due to her age it is inoperable.

Did the vet prescribe any medication? If so, it is possible that the improvement is due to that. I would think hard about whether further tests would make a difference to any treatment if it is a tumour, or if they would be worth it for your own peace of mind. Whatever it is, it is good to know she is feeling so much better.
