Cat GI slow cell lymphoma

Post by Kfezk »

Hi. My beautiful 11.5yo cat has been diagnosed with early stage GI slow cell lymphoma.
I can’t start chemo until 25th April because I will be away and the vet has prescribed the steroid prednisolone until then.
I have read online that prednisolone can make the chemo less effective but the vet doesn’t seem to think so - can anyone help please? I really don’t want to risk her chances of a long full remission because of these two weeks. Would it be best to not give her steroids?
Thank you everyone.

I think if you need a second opinion another qualified vet would be better than the internet, and I don't mean that unkindly, just that there are people on the internet who claim that drinking hydrogen peroxide cures everything (it doesn't, it's highly toxic!) and a vet has access to the latest research, peer reviewed and tested.

As I understand it the immunosuppression of long term steroid use can increase the effects of chemotherapy, but 2 weeks isn't long term.

My boy was not definitively diagnosed, he had most likely either lymphoma or Inflammatory Bowel Disease, we opted not to have the invasive tests because my vet said in his case it would be unlikely to change our treatment plan - steroids would be the go-to in both cases. Each case is different. My lad was 15 so quite a different scenario to yours.

Hi, thank you very much.
Definitely, I will be trying to phone oncology specialists too tomorrow too - it’s so hard getting through without a referral.

Thanks again
