Cut or skin problem?

Post by cwfisher1 »

My 1 year old boy has a lesion on his face as pictured. Does this look like a laceration or some kind of skin problem? Should we treat it in any way (i.e. hydrogen peroxide or anything else to prevent infection)? Should we take him in to the vet? Our normal vet is backed up until May so we would need to find an alternative one.

How long has it been there? If it is simply an abrasion I would bathe it with warm slightly salted boiled water several times a day and expect it to heal swiftly (I would probably also use HyperCal ointment, as that is my go to remedy for cuts and abrasions). But if it has been brewing for some time and first appeared as a blister or swelling or is caused by ulceration I would be more concerned and would be thinking about calling the vet.
