Hi! We had two 2.5-yr old cats, but then sadly lost one of them. We recently adopted an 8-mo old kitten, and it's not going well! Our adult cat has been completely hiding, refusing to interact with the household at all. Meanwhile, the kitten cries almost incessantly; (perhaps missing her companions from the shelter, and not getting any feline interaction in our home?). I've tried all the traditional 'integration' methods, and am now at a loss! Any advice/tips/reassurances would be greatly appreciated!

Re: new kitten & resident cat
You say "recently adopted" and "tried all the methods" - introductions can take weeks, sometimes months, and I suspect you may not have given your older cat sufficient time to adjust to the intruder in his/her territory. You may need to start again, finding ways to provide the two with separated areas and allowing much more time for the adult to learn to tolerate the kitten.
