Heart Worm prevention in Siamese breed

Post by skipaway »

New to forum and grateful to be able to ask questions.
Does anyone have any information regarding breed specific (Siamese) intolerance of common Heart worm preventatives? I seemed to have read something sometime ago but cannot find it.
Appreciate any help.

Are you perhaps thinking of ivermectin intolerance due to a mutation of the MDR1 gene? It appears to be as common in cats as dogs (https://www.laboklin.co.uk/laboklin/sho ... estID=8776) but can be tested for - the Wisdom Panel may be the most accessible in the US: https://www.wisdompanel.com/en-us/blog/mdr1-in-cats
