Young 5 month kitten tip of tail broken off!

Hello! I came home today to find that the small tip of our kittens tail had been broken all the way off as though it got stuck under something heavy or in a door or something. So sad. Took him to the vet and they put a tail cast on it. Since I am in a third world country though I wasn't sure if the doctors feedback was correct so I wanted to check with others. If a very small tip of the bone (like 1.5cm) has broken off, will it grow back on it's own or will be gone forever?

Gone forever, I am afraid. With luck the skin will heal over the tip and the fur regrow enough that any scar will not be noticeable, though.
