Sudden aggression

Post by bobizgrate »

Hi guys,

We have two five-month-old kittens, one male ragdoll-Maine coon cross, one female ragdoll-Persian cross.

They have been best of friends since we got them in May - playing together, hugging, eating and sleeping together. We had the boy neutered last week, and the female yesterday.

Something really strange happened when she came back from the vet last night after the neutering. She is fine, but suddenly the boy hisses and growls at her, and won't go near her. She is very downcast about it, and it is really upsetting for us as owners, as they were so happy together before. It was a very sudden change - literally, they were in love when we took her to be spayed in the morning, and when we brought her back he seems not to recognise her.

Anybody have any ideas for restoring their relationship? Surely it won't be a permanent state of affairs?

she smells of vet - this sort of reaction is quite common, and harmony should be restored pretty quickly

you could perhaps speed it up by rubbing a cloth over him and then her, to transfer his smell to her

Thank you so much, Kay - harmony was indeed restored after we tried that, as you can see in the attached pic. From Zlatan, Khaleesi, and their grateful humans.
