Clingy Cat

Hello,
I've never owned a cat before so Finn is our first, he's a 16 month old male tabby who we've had from about 7 weeks old, he was neutered in April (along with his identical brother who lives a few doors away). He's always been affectionate and nice natured but since we went away for a few days last week he has become really clingy and needy, he won't leave the house except for a wee or a poo, he's watching our every move and seems to be wherever we are, even sitting outside the toilet door! Is this normal behaviour and will he go back to how he was? He never wandered far before but used to go outside more than he does now and socialise with his brother and other cats in the area - I feel guilty whenever I leave the house now!
Thanks

Hi and welcome to CC.
Is this the first time you have been away since you had Finn? I have found in the past that if I went away for a holiday (although I haven't yet with Denver, when my girls were alive a friend came to feed them), they used to follow me around for a couple of days upon my return, but they went back to normal behaviour fairly quickly. I think Finn just needs some reassurance! My friend also has a cat, I feed her when they go away - and she sticks around them like glue for a day or so when they come back!
And don't worry about feeling guilty about going out - we've all been there! Please give Finn a fuss from me and Denver.
Helen

Hello and thanks for that. We went away last year when Finn was about 4 months old but my brother looked after him and he seemed fine when we got back, it's much more noticeable this time, he seems almost timid. His brother, Ralph, belongs to my brother who lives a few doors away, we bought them at the same time as we couldn't bear to see Ralph left behind! So they both have access to each other's homes and are never jealous of each other, they are both very loved and fussed over by all of us, especially our two teenage sons!
Hopefully this will pass, we are all on school holidays at the moment so maybe Finn has got used to too much company!

Hello and welcome to CC.
I wouldn't worry, I think Helen is right, Finn will settle down again in his own time. Our girls go through 'fussy' phases every now and again (the boys are always like that

). At least he is sitting outside the bathroom door. Grace follows my OH in to the room, waits till he is sitting down and then sits in his trousers! (I hope you are not having your lunch

)
I'm sure he'll soon be back visiting his brother - by the way, what a lovely idea.

That's so funny, Finn did that a whole ago when my OH was sitting on the loo, he cosied up in his trackie bottoms - I even took a pic!!
Pleased to say that he's been out and about a bit more today, not far, just around the nearby gardens and outside front gate but definitely better.
Thanks
Sara

My Molly tried to get in my trousers when I came home from work today! We've only had her 3 weeks and although she's still not 'cuddly', she will now let me stroke her (my husband is not allowed!) and she follows me everywhere except the sofa and the bed, the 2 places I wish she would snuggle down on!
