Sorry me again,i decided last night to let one of my cats Fix out as she is desperate to go out being out already 3 times but from my previous posts you will know having trouble to get her to come back in through the window ,last night went out ,for 6 hours ran across grass over wall came back several times to garden a bit later but i couldnt get her to come in , trying to entice her with treats and chicken,she at some stage got as far as window when i was in there but tried and failed to jump in the window its one that opens out at the top and a low sash window at the bottom but there is a window ledge . i eventually caught her and put her back in. any ideas please ??

I would suggest she needs some 'cat steps' or a platform - in time she will probably get more confident but at the moment she obviously isn't - cats don't think 'ooh how will I get back in' when they go out

You've probably seen the little ramps they have in catteries to help cats climb up into the bed areas - it can be quite steep but if it has little ridges they can walk up it.

thanks good ideas but its quite a high jump i didnt realise myself ,so need something a bit higher we put a re/cycled crate but thats not really high enough, a bit struck to what else we could get !!!!!

sorry Laura, but I have to ask - you'd mentioned in a previous post that you'd had to pick her up before to help her in because she couldn't get in. Didn't you at that point already realise that the jump would be too high for her? Unless I'm totally mistaken but:

that to me sounds like she's been trying but just couldn't - poor thing

As a matter of interest, how wide is the window ledge of the window? Is it wide enough for her to actually get up to and then have enough space to balance and then try and leap up through the smaller fanlight? A lot of window ledges won't be wide enough for that?

only picked her up to put her in to encourge her to jump in ,the other cat Ouzo can do it fine though she chooses to stay in ,and thats fine,i put a crate by the window and Fix after after few attempts jumped in fine,but i cannot afford to leave this window open its too big and someone could get in it ,so now have to encourge her to jump out of bathroom window which is slightly higher and only an fan window big enough to get through so i need something higher for her to jump on crate i dont think will be high enough.

have I missed something? what is preventing you from putting in a catflap?

Kay, I think the property is shared ownership and also no where suitable to put a cat flap

have only windows and i am with a housing so they wont allow it .

yes thats correct only have window access ,which was ok'd by home visit from rescue centre

my door access is on to a main road via an intercom door.

Laura, do you know anyone that has basic DIY skills that could make you something similar to this:

my concern though would be other cats getting in but at least it would be something Fix could easily use

no i am affraid i dont know anyone with DIY skills ,my neighbour that moved in may ,had two cats that adopted me where in and out for 2 years i must admit never had any other cats other than them in that time and usually left the bathroom window open ,cos they didnt always want to go out when i went to work when they stayed all night it was mother and son. its harder this time as i have to teach Fix to go out bathroom and come back in ,the only reason she went out bedroom is thats the room they related to a window and obviously which room they are in alot as they sleep on top on wardrobe in the day ,and are in living room with me in the evenings .

glad to say they are now jumping in and out merrily ,i put a re cycled crate outside the bathroom and believe or not the cat that doesnt go out Ouzo went out and jumped back in and the other Fix followed her and they havent stopped since so relieved ,they are having a ball in the garden.
