Can anyone help me with my cats sickness

Our female neutered cat Princess is approx 6-8yrs.
Not sure of her exact age, as she is a rescue cat.
Last sunday she was sick and we then realised she certainly was not herself.
She was not interested in her food and just generally looked like she had been drugged
She is even struggling to meow properly and her fur on her back is spiked up.
I called the vet on sunday and took her along.
The vet said she might have pancreitus and told us to monitor her.
Monday she was no better so I took her again to the vets.
Different vet this time, he said she has just got a nasty bug, and administered a two week injection of anti-biotics.
Took her temp and checked her for dehydration, both were ok.
On fri I took her back again because she was still no better and also she has been sick a few more times, only to be told by another vet that she seems fine and just keep an eye on her.
I know our cat real well, and I am worried there is something going undetected.
I would hate to think I am sat here while she is in pain with something.
Any ideas anyone what we should do please?

you don't mention any tests carried out by your vet - I would have thought blood and stool tests should have been done by now, as diagnoses on such symptoms alone are pretty much whistling in the dark

unless she is improving, I am tempted to suggest the way forward is to find another vet with a more scientific approach, as she is going to deteriorate very quickly, I fear, without some determined veterinary intervention

She had her hydration and temp tested which was up last sunday but was fine monday and friday visits.
They commented on how she actually looks and were not too worried.
I am trying today to just give her small amount of food at a time and she has eating half of it.
She was not sick over night too.
I will be calling the vet tommorrow to tell them that the cat litter was like real sticky-the urine that is.
She does not seem to be passing solids.
Thanks for replying

Not passing stool is not a good sign. I'd definitely take her back, mention this, and also request basic bloods.

I would definitely get her back to the vet and ask for blood tests. Unfortunately cats tend to present with these sort of symptoms for any number of medical conditions, which makes it very difficult for vets to get a firm diagnosis sometimes. But she clearly isn't getting any better - you should have been seeing some improvement from the antibiotics long ago. You know your cat, you know she's not right, and vets very often have to rely on the vigilance of the owners to give them a picture of what's happening to the cat. Don't feel awkward about it, take her back. Better one visit too many than one too few.

Princess is at the vets as we speak.
They are going to monitor her urine over night, that will be collected in a litter that can tested.
If this proves inconclusive, bloods and x ray will be performed.
I am hoping we may now find some answers.
Thankyou for replying.

How is Princess today?

I got a phone call today from the vets to tell me that Princess is not well at all.
Her kidneys are failing due possibly to something she may have eaten, as she was a fit healthy cat up until last weekend.
He ruled out age deterioation of the kidneys, as she was fit and well so short a period ago.
He requested my permission to try and recover her.
She is on a drip to try and flush out the problem, and has had another dose of anti biotics.
I asked the vet what her survival chance is, he said to be cautious, but it can be done.
I called to see her tonight and she was so pleased to see me, fussing me like mad.
Feel terrible to be honest that she is so ill.
I guess I am hoping for a miracle..
Thank you for your enquiry of her.

I wish the news was better, but it just goes to show that owner's instincts are often right, and sometimes you just have to persevere with the vet to get them to take it seriously. She's in the right place now to give her every chance of recovery. I'll have all my fingers crossed for her today, and I so hope the vets can pull her through this. Do keep us posted, and hang in there - I know this is tough, but you're doing the right thing for her.

Poor Princess!! Thank goodness you took her when you did - the most important thing is to get her through this - it sounds like she has plenty of spirit in her, which is a good sign, and I'm sure the vet will be doing everything possible to restore her to health. We are all rooting for your little lady.

As to what caused this to happen - is she an outdoor girl? Could she have eaten or brushed up on some lillies or other poisonous plants? How dreadful for you that she was fine and active one minute and so seriously ill the next. As others have said - positive healing vibes flooding your way this morning...
x

Thinking of your little girl, and of you, at this difficult time. Every loving and healing wish heading towards Princess now. Well done for pushing things. The vets charge so much, they shouldn't need pushing, but it seems that sometimes they do. xx

Well freinds we have good news thankfully, cant be any worse day than yesterday, was a dreadfull experience hearing the news.
The latest is as follows:
I am not sure of what the figures are for, but I can see the dramatic improvement through flushing with the drip.
Yesterdays measurement 66 has dropped to 28 ideal 5.7-12.9
911 has dropped to 794 ideal 212
6.04 has dropped to 3.11 ideal 1- 2.42
I will get more info on each of these measurements consist of.
I called to see her tonight and she was pleased as ever to see me, butting me etc ha and tonight I saw the best thing ever, I saw her tucking into some food like she was really interested in it :D
Although its not nice seeing her with a bandage on her lower front leg with a pipe connected to a drip, I know that my persitance is hopefully helping her.
I dont want to count too many bleesings as she is still poorly, but is much better news than I thought i was going to get today.
Thankyou so much for the lovely messages of support.Much appreciated and you obviousley know how it feels to be in this position.
I will tell princess tommorrow :D
How do I get a picture of her on here?
I will try paste one in.

Lovely pictures on YouTube, she's a beautiful looking puss.

So pleased to hear things are starting to look up for her. As you say, she's got a way to go yet, but it's looking much more hopeful, and the vets are finally keeping a careful eye on her. I hope she continues to improve. Hang on in there...

Well its a still good news, the results today tell us that she is improving well.

Normal range 1st day 2nd day 3rd day
urea 5.7-12.9 66 28.3 22.5
crea 71-212 911 794 686
phos 1.00-2.42 6.04 3.11 2.73

I visited her and she was fussing me like mad, but its still not nice as she keeps wrapping herself up with the drip tube :(
They told me they are very pleased with the way things are going, and are talking about her coming home maybe saturday?
I told them I am not rushing for her to be out, so long as she is right, they agreed.
Will keep you posted how we do.
Thanks again for the messages in this stressful time.

Oh so pleased she seems to be picking up - it sounds like something she's ingested maybe which has infected her and affected her kidney function - hopefully the drip will clear it out of her system. Its so frightening seeing them deteriorate and feel so helpless!

You do and you think what must be going through there thoughts, must be so scary for them.
I am trying my hardest to get her through this and get back to herself :)

She must be starting to feel better, and is probably getting used to the new environment, seeing the same vet/nurses, who are all being nice to her, so she's probably coping better than you think. She's still got a way to go yet to get her kidney functions right, but it's looking really positive. Well done. Hang in there. She's in good hands.

Lily came back from acute kidney failure when we nearly lost her after a post op infection about 4 years ago, and she's still with me now, with the help of diet, pills and tlc. (The pills I hide in Webbox treats so she doesn't realise she's on them, or you can grind them up into wet food). It can be done. Don't despair.

Well Princess is home, and laid as we speak next to us on the settee.
The vet told me we can now take over the care now the drip has been removed.
The test results today were lower again, one of them is now in the green.
Princess must now eat Hills prescription diet k/d. Feline Renal Health dried or the same wet tinned form.
He suggested the wet would be better, as that is putting more fluids into her.
I administer her with semintra orally once a day and an antibiotic once a day too.
She will be going back towards the end of the week for further tests.
I will of course keep you posted.
Although the vets were maybe slow to pinpoint, once they did I cannot thank them enough for what they have done.
Princess seems happy to be home and so are we.
Thankyou for your messages once again :)

excellent news - I wonder if she got hold of some antifreeze, as I know that can cause kidney damage

well done for making sure she got the correct treatment in time - sometimes waiting and seeing is definitely not the right way forward
