Great news Cathy. You'll be glad to get your lovely boy home. Sounds like he coped quite well on the journey. So relieved that nothing other than a lump of ear wax was found. Give Boris gentle fusses from me.

So glad they didn't find anything sinister, and lovely to hear how well he is for his age. Fingers crossed the wax can be easily dealt with to make Boris more comfortable.

Oh yay Cathy, so very pleased for you. Who'd have thought that a blob of wax could cause such issues.

Fusses to your gorgeous boy (and H as well of course) :D And definitely a glass (or cuppa) of something for you tonight

That's a great (if surprising!) outcome! So pleased for you all. You must be soooooo relieved! And good boy not deafening you on the way there. Big hugs to Boris, and a big drink for you and Glen when you get home! :D

Now you've just got to work out how to get the ear drops into him..... :?

Morning all.

I am pleased to report that Mr Howly is back on form this morning by howling for his breakfast at 5:00am whilst stood in our shower for the biggest effect. (Note to self... Shut bathroom door at night or at least ensure shower door is pulled to...)

I gave him unblended food this morning and he still can't eat it, hence I guess the ear wax was not the cause. After a few minutes of trying I blended it for him and he wolfed it down.

We get the full results of the scan on Monday, but I am just so relieved that nothing obvious or sinister showed up. The vet yesterday said another likely cause could be arthritis in his jaw, for which there is treatment but no cure. If it is this he treats it with human drugs, as they apparently are far more effective and don't damage the kidneys. (They are also much cheaper.) He will wait until we get the full scan results, but he thinks it's worth a try anyway. He will advise the next steps next week.

Thanks for all your support. Yesterday was one of the most stressful experiences I've been through, but the way Boris handled it was outstanding. He was so relaxed throughout and never once howled or showed any signs of being stressed. This pic was taken on arrival at the vets after a 45 minute journey. Says it all really :)

Wow, wasn't he a good boy! Lovely picture of him - we don't see enough of your two. Pleased to hear he's back to his slightly annoying self, but I hope Steve can do something to help his jaw. Will the scans pick up on signs of arthritis, if that's the case? Could it be something like a trapped nerve perhaps (although not easy to diagnose or treat)?

I'm so pleased that Boris seemed to take it all in his stride. I've just realised by looking at the photo again that he's got his paws crossed :) He is certainly a handsome boy. He did his best to help reduce your stress. Sometimes they are full of surprises.

Glad nothing sinister showed up on the scan, but annoying they don't know why he can't chew. I would have thought arthritis would show up in a scan, it does on an x ray

Hi All

The results of Boris's scan are in. They show that the left jaw joint is worn and the bones are possibly rubbing together. His jaw is also 'weak' in a couple of places again on the left side. The consultant thinks that he could have had an infection that has eaten the joint and parts of the bone. There seems to be no infection there now, just the weakness.

The next person we need to see is a dental specialist to see if there is anything that can be done.

For now we'll keep blending his food and making sure he's comfy.

I'm away in the US this week on business and am missing my boys so much. I'll be home Friday and can't wait....

Oooh, poor Boris, that does sound painful. But it does sound like a very probable cause of his pain, and what a relief that it's not something more sinister. It may be difficult to treat, but pureeing his food sounds like it will be a big help in the absence of any treatments. At least he's eating properly again.

I expect he's missing you too. I'm sure Glen and H will give him a hug from you.

Oh bless him. But as has already been said, it does not matter how his food is delivered to him as long as he eats it.

Dear All

We're into the next phase of the investigation into why Boris can't chew. He's now been referred to a dental vet in Manchester next Friday 25th at 10:00am. They will take x-rays and see if there's anything they can do to alleviate his pain. I've just sent off the pre-authorisation forms to Petplan for another £900 of possible treatment. I hope they say YES again....

My boy will soon be one of the most travelled cats in the North West! He is still happy in himself and eating well... out of H's bowl! For some reason he seems to think the dry food H is eating is far more tasty than his. I've yet to break it to him that it all comes out of the same bag :P

The grass is always greener.... Hope they come through with the goods for Boris's next scan. Pleased to hear he's still doing well, and getting the hang of commuting!
