FHV Dermatitis

Post by greenkitty »

Some of you may remember I'm having an ongoing battle with Hector's nose!

He tested negative for Crytococcus, a specialist thought it might be a rare reaction to the antibiotics he was on so we changed those with no improvement. Our latest train of thought it that as well as being a Calici carrier he's also carrying the Herpes virus and this is FHV dermatitis associated with that. The result was negative when he was tested a few years ago but they can have a false negative result. I have tried L-lysine in the past but a human version so we're starting him on the feline version so we're sure he's getting the correct dose.

I was bathing with diluted Hibiscrub but the vet told me to stop that.

He's been in a Smart Collar (like a short lampshade) for nearly a month now as without it on he's constantly washing his nose, this isn't ideal for his quality of life but we've just got to go with it.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas?
