Willow not well - vibes please

Post by bobbys girl »

I'm taking Willow back to the vets this morning.

At her last visit a couple of weeks ago she was given Metacam drops for suspected athritis in her shoulder. She has been doing OK on it, up to Wednesday.

She was sick after her tea (and before the Metacam) so I didn't give her any. She was very clingy - which is just not Willow. She could not get comfy, legs infront of her, legs tucked up underneath her, lying on her side. On top of that her ears have started playing up again - she has always been prone to ear mites, poor lass (they never seem to bother the others).

She was sick again yesterday and very clingy. She is just not a happy bunny.

She dislikes being picked up, hates the carrier and is a general nightmare when it comes to vaccination time. It is going to be a tough morning for both of us. I would appreciate possitive vibes for my baby girl (and me!)

Oh poor Willow, will be thinking of you this morning. I hope the vet can help make her feel better and that the trip's not too traumatic for either of you.

All paws here crossed for her, give her a fuss from me. xx

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

I have just got back. We saw the head of the Practice. A lovely man with a soft, Irish accent - very calming. Willow only growled at him once

With her history he said he wanted to do a full 'bloods', before discussing alternatives to Metacam. He will sedate her just enough to take the blood and while he is doing that, give her ears a good clean and do her teeth.

She is not a cat that is fond of biscuits or anything crunchy that might clean her teeth. In professional hands (not us pair of wussys) it is clear to see the poor little duck has terrible build-up on her teeth. Sounds like she is going to get a full MOT!

I have to call them about 3PM.

She doesn't look like she ought to be trifled with. I hope her MOT goes well, I'll wait to hear the outcome at 3PM :D

Have you tried giving Willow a raw chicken wing to see what she does with that? If she did happily chomp away at them then that would give the teeth a good clean as well.

She is such a gorgeous girl

I collected Willow just after 5PM. She is still quite woosey. Her ears are sparkling clean and she is minus 2 teeth. They were worse than we thought. She has had bloods taken and the vet will 'phone when he has the results.

She has just tried to walk and slid on our wooden floors so I have put her back in the carrier for a while. I'll post later. Thanks for your thoughts and best wishes

Willow has settled in her favourite spot in the wardrobe. She seems a little brighter.

Purdy has just come in and is inspecting every inch of the carrier and the towels I wrapped around Willow. She has to OK everything that comes into the house.

Thanks everyone.

Willow spent the night curled up on her 'blanky' - a black, towelling dressing gown that she blends into and is her favourite snuggle blanket (bit difficult if I want to wear it).

She had a tiny bit of breakfast and is now back in the wardrobe. I think she will be OK - it is difficult to say with her, she is always quiet.

Do any of you watch Downton? Imagine the Dowager Duchess sitting, very correctly, at the edge of the room, watching the family's goings-on with arched eyebrows and pursed lips - that's Willow!

Thanks again for your kind thoughts. I will update when I hear something.

Oh and Helen please tell Merrick that Willow is very flattered that he thinks she is his 'kinda gal'.

My OH went into the vets to pay for yesterday and had a long chat with the vet. Willow's blood test results are done, and of the three columns, low, normal and high, every tick is in the normal column! :D

He said, apart from her teeth, she is in excellent health! Hurray! :D He said to give her a couple of days and, if needed, she can resume the Metacam - every other day.

The girl herself is a little brighter and has just been sitting on my knee purring happily. Phew!
Happy kitty, happy mummy.

Yay, great news :D

Mr G had virtually all his teeth removed in Sepember. He was fine within a few days. He was on metacam for a week.

He's now eating totally normally and his breath no longer smells

Those are great results, hurrah! :)

I'm glad she's feeling happier, and she'll be a lot better off without those teeth. I used to give my lot raw chicken wings, and they really did help. I've only stopped because they are all hunting and eating their kills since we moved, so their teeth are now getting a proper work out on fur and bones anyway.

Give Mme Willow a fuss from me, and Merrick. xx

She seems to be doing OK thanks. She is still a little limpy when she has been sitting a while, but I have started giving her a small dose of Metacam every other day. So far, so good :D I have to take her back on Wednesday.

She is so much happier with her squeaky-clean ears and no toothache. I just feel guilty that I had no idea things were so bad.
