Cat saliva in cut?

Post by AhmedUK »

Hello.

This mind sound like a really silly question, but ... if a cat's saliva enters a minor (not deep) cut in your body, is there any danger? I was feeding TC some treats, I put them in my hand and he eats them from there, and he was salivating and I forgot I had a cut, and the saliva went in there. I washed it out with soap and water, do I need to do anything more?

Thanks.

If it was me I'd give it a slosh of disinfectant and some antiseptic cream. Kitty spit should be classed as a chemical weapon!

I agree, don't panic but bathe it in something like disinfectant and/or put some antibacterial cream on it. I always slather Germolene on cat bites/scratches. Just to be on the safe side.

I keep some Byotrol hand foam (from Boots) handy. Tonight I was bitten by the stray I am looking after (he only attacks when I stop fussing him and he knows I am leaving the room) hopefully it is enough I applied it straight away, but no telling if the bite was deep enough for infection to go into the bloodstream. I have been bitten by 3 of my cats in the past and the bite has become infected. You will soon know about it if there is an infection. It is hot & painful and there will be swelling of the area, The doctor will normally prescribe antibiotics and/or a steroid cream to apply.

Thanks guys - oh, after reading about the bite Mark suffered, I feel like a right wimp worrying about just some saliva dripping on a minor cut!

Purdy likes to groom her face on Dave's stubble. :? When she does, he has to be quick to have a good wash afterwards. Otherwise he ends up with a nasty rash.

Kitty dribble should carry a government health warning. It is not to be taken lightly, however minor the cut!
