Out of desperation, I turned to Google to see if I could find anything to help me with my problem and I was thrilled when I came across this site.
I work at a large animal feed manufacturing plant (in South Africa), and we have a lot of ferral cats on our premises. Fortunately our company manager agreed to have all of them neutered, and returned to the premisis (where they get well fed by certain staff members). Needless to say, there haven't been kittens for years ... until 4 weeks ago. One of the staff members picked up a beautiful ginger kitten (a FEMALE ginger, believe it or not), which was oddly enough very tame and lovable. We took her to the Vet for a general check up and deworming, and apart from being a bit under-nourished and de-hydrated, the vet was quite happy with her. The Vet said she looked to be about 3 months old.
We already have 3 cats at home, but I was so taken with her that I decided to take her home. My husband (who is a real cat lover) was also amazed at how tame and lovable she is. We are big animal lovers, and our animals all live in harmony. The big cats obviously weren't very impressed at first (which is to be expected), but mostly they simply ignore her.
We noticed the kitten had chronic diahroea, but we weren't too concerned as we assumed it was simply due to diet change. As we always do with a new kitten, we decided to keep her in the spare bedroom for a week while we were at work. We bought a new cat litter box and cat litter, and kitten food for her. The problem begins here ... she DOES not want to use her litter box. Instead, she poos under the bed, and behind the curtains, and recently under the bookshelf. Sometimes she even poos on the bed. We took her to the vet again, and he put her on a course of antibiotics and dewormed her again. Unfortunately her diarhroea got even worse, to the point that she would have accidents even while sitting on our laps.
The Vet then recommended we give her Hills Gastro Intestinal diet and probiotics (we use Protexion). We were so relieved to see that she started improving and gained wait over a period of a few days. However, the diorhoea has started again after just a week of being on the special diet. And STILL she won't use the cat litter box, and our house is REALLY smelling bad

We try to encourage her to go outside, in the hopes that once she starts going to poo in the dirt, that she'll decide it is better. In the last week, she has learnt to enter and exit through the kitchen window, but she STILL poos in the bedroom. If the bedroom is closed, then she poos anywhere else.
We love her dearly, but I'm afraid that if this continues, we'll have to get rid of her (I want to cry just thinking about it), but it really is just getting too much! The house smells really bad, even though we disinfect each time we clean up.
Do you think anything can be done to stop this, or is she one of those cats that will always have bad toilet habits. She doesn't even try coving up her poos, even the one time I saw her go outside in the dirt. She just did her poo, and walked off without looking back. That alone makes me very nervous - like she has no pride?
Thanks in advance
