As some know, Domino was neutered a couple of weeks ago. He isn't overgrooming (that I know of) but the area is still quite raw. I took him to the vet on Saturday. They gave me some Dermisol cream and said to apply twice a day for a week - failing that, he will need an inflatable collar. I found some blood on the bed today. I changed the bedding and found another spot tonight. He hates me putting the cream on and licks it off anyway!

I hate the idea of collars, but if I have to....

I have seen a few on Amazon - Buster, Thrive and ProCollar - any experience?

I've only ever used a borrowed Comfycollar, briefly - I think it was the Thrive one. I do remember thinking how much better they were than the lampshade types - worked well but didn't get as in the way and caught on things.

I did see this home-made version, and have heard of people making them out of old socks, stuffed and threaded onto a regular collar, if that's any help.

I think I will stick with ready made although hoping not to.

I was thinking tonight that I wish they put Bitrex in skin cream to stop them licking it off - the downside is they might give up grooming for life

I wonder if you could add it yourself - they sell something similar to Bitrex for nail-biters ....... I wonder if it's safe for cats ....... just a thought.

I have never seen Pugwash attempt to wash any part of himself yet ....... I'm hoping he'll remember how to as he starts to feel better!

I've had a lot of experience with collars recently because of Hector's nose!

We first tried the Comfy Collar but Hector drinks quite a lot and the plastic got very wet and rubbed his neck raw, we gave up on that one.

Next we tried Soft-E Smart Collar: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SOFT-E-SMART-CO ... mfy+collar" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but again it got quite wet and because of the solid colour he can't see about very well.

We sent for a size 1 but he can still rub his nose of the top of the kitchen chair (!) so I'm about to order a size 2 to see if that stops that. The only other negative is that his ears get caught inside on the outer rim but a shake of the head frees them, no a big deal in the scheme of things!

He probably isn't helping things by being overfriendly with a fleece. He is doing it at the moment. Quite unsettling to watch. I hope that stops! - I had never seena cat do that before!

Yes, Hector can just about get to his bits with the size 1 collar on so a good idea to size up.

Obviously the testosterone hasn't quite left his system yet...
