Hi everyone,
This is a puzzler. I have a six month old tom called Furio who seems to absolutely love peeing on my duvet. Well, it's a bit more specific than that. He likes peeing on double duvets, of which I've gone through three now in the last couple of months. Expensive habit! I have a single duvet I have on my bed "between duvets" and he has no interest in that at all. I put my new duvet on today after a couple of dry weeks under the single duvet and within minutes he had disappeared to have his wicked way with it. He's also stayed over at my mam's house without incident. I just don't understand.
When I first got him he peed on anything I left on the floor but that stopped when he was neutered / I tried to be less messy. The vet says he's perfectly fine and healthy and otherwise he just cats about like a normal cat. I know the obvious thing would be to lock him out of my room but I live in a small bungalow so that wouldn't leave him with many other indoor options and he normally sleeps on my feet which we're both pretty happy about. Also the one time I did it he meowed a lot and them poo'd on the sitting room carpet, so he won that round. I'm pretty soft, as I'm sure you can tell. He's a total doll, he's asleep on me right now as all my sheets go round in the washer for the millionth time.
So, what do I do? I hope someone can help. My only single duvet cover is patterned with Simpsons characters and I was hoping to invite a human man round at some point in my life!
Thanks,
Rebecca

Re: Duvet problems
cats who like peeing on cloth are not uncommon, but such a selective one is
I don't suppose the double duvets are feathers and the single one synthetic, by any chance?

Hi Kay, thanks for replying! The first one was feather but the other ones have been getting steadily cheaper as you can imagine. It just seems weird because he sleeps there too so you'd think it's the last place he'd want to go, hmmmm...
The single quilt is a lot thinner that the others though, not as squishy?

A couple of years ago my OH persuaded me to buy a down duvet. It was on the bed less than a week before it got 'Christened'Kay wrote:I don't suppose the double duvets are feathers and the single one synthetic, by any chance?

OK - so he likes squishy
what sort of cat litter do you use? sort of thinking aloud here, but if you use the kind which consists of hard pellets, you might just wean him off the duvet by switching to a really fine soft textured kind, and filling the tray really deep (a big tray will be necessary - I use these http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_ ... oxes/98035" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - so he can paddle it to his heart's content - even play sand might do the trick, and it's pretty cheap stuff - £2.99 for 15kg in Argos

Re: Duvet problems
My first very nervous kitten would do this and it drove me mad! First of all, i would say, invest in a waterproof cover for your duvet.. cheaper than a new duvet. Even now as I pass a certain launderette near me, memories of spending time in there, washing the duvet once again ,, make me feel uneasy!
We changed litter from wood pellets to v fine, clumping litter, catsan and on the advice of people on here, got 2 litter trays. It worked, and then she was old enough to go outside and she never ever used a tray again, even though there was one in the kitchen all the time and she was shut in at night,, until the last day when she was v poorly....
Despite the early traumas with her, we miss her and her successor who also died recently..
Good luck
