Hi can anyone help please.

My kitten virtually stopped eating for 1 and 1/2 days last week so I took him to the vets. The vet gave him an good check up and said she can't see any problems but gave him an injection - sort of a cat tonic and he was fine afterwards. Then he stopped eating again yesterday and has had no more than a handful of food since. He seems quite lethargic and is avoiding me and hiding away.

I gave him a change of food which he had a few bits of then no more since. I don't think he is dehydrated and I can't see anything physically wrong. He has just started nibbling a few bits of dried food but normally it's head down chomping away enthusiastically. He is the only animal and I live on my own. He has not been neutered yet but doesn't spray indoors.

I let him out during the day for 3/4 hours but not at night yet as he is too young. Is it possible it is anxiety/stress?

Does anyone have any ideas please as I am worried sick.

I'd ring the emergency vet to ask whether he needs to be seen today or can wait till tomorrow, but please don't let him out till he is neutered, he is at the age where if he picks up the scent of a female, he'll be off. You are also lucky he doesn't have smelly wee at that age and that he isn't spraying but if he starts, you might not get him to stop

Thanks I know he should be done but so far he has come back in when called but I admit it is getting harder to get him in. I really hate having to get male cats 'done' but I guess it is necessary isn't it? Do you think this could be linked to his not eating in any way please?

He has just eaten a couple of mouthfulls of his normal wet food and a couple of dozen bits of dried food but had to hand feed him. I have also noticed he has fleas which the vet didn't pick up on! I didn't think they got fleas in the winter. So will get him some flea stuff from the vets. That might help. I have checked for worms and nothing but will do him anyway. Should I wait for that though bearing in mind his not eating much? Don't want to upset his little tummy more.

I will keep hand feeding him and see how he goes. Will also keep him in for today I think and maybe tomorrow as well. Will get him done next week. Thanks. x

No really, don't delay, get him back to the vet. There is obviously something badly wrong that needs further investigation. You shouldn't need to hand feed a cat of any age, and this really is a bad sign. Also, DO NOT LET HIM OUT while he's like this. Please, please keep him in, and get him to a vet as soon as you can. Tomorrow am AT THE VERY LATEST. Take time of work, say you're ill, lie, whatever, but get him to the vet. Young cats can go downhill very fast, and your boy sounds very poorly indeed.
