Oh excellent, and good to know you're already on the track that's going to fix it. Hopefully. All paws here crossed for him. xx

Sorry for being late on this, but glad it isn't anything sinister, although shame it will take so long to clear. Is it Baytril he is on?

No he's on Synulox, she said the particular strain of infection he's got is resistant to some AB's so I assumed she meant Baytril and Antirobe by that.

Thanks Julia.

I have some Synulox in the cupboard the vet gave me in case Laz has a cystitis flare up. No idea why he left it to me to decide! :)

I think they were FOC, so can't complain :)

The only reason I asked about Baytril, isn;t because I know anything about various ABs, but remembered my vet saying it is often prescribed for eyes etc, as for some reason, it is able to get to the tiniest capillaries that other ABs can't reach.

Oh no poor Hector he has been through a lot. My cat had to wear a cone for 3 weeks and that was hell so poor Hector must have felt down (who wouldn't) :( hope he picks up.

I wonder if part of the problem was him being in the buster collar for so long meant he couldn't clean his ears, so all the muck built up allowing bacteria to take hold? So pleased to hear he's on the mend though. Well done you and the vet.

The vet did think that could of been part of the problem Anna. A few years ago when he went to the referral vet they CT scanned his head and they said he had the cat equivalent of glue ear, nothing could be done but his ears are always a bit mucky. I had been cleaning them once a week while he was in the cone but really I was just wiping away what was around the ear opening and I guess that wasn't like getting a claw down to hook out the muck. Pip always cleans his head too, especially around his ears and wasn't able to do that either (normal service has now been resumed :))

What with that and his constant snottyness we think he's just all bunged in his tubes and an infection has crept in.

He's coming on a bit every day, on Monday he managed to get up on the cat tree and yesterday he got up on the kitchen table (via the cat tree) so I think we're definitely making steady progress.

Another couple of steps, he stayed downstairs with the others last night and ate his breakfast with them in the kitchen, unfortunately it was ear drop day and he's now slunk back under the bed but I'm sure he'll be back out later.

Isn't it funny how they hate ear drops so much. They must be among the least unpleasant treatments we give them, but it freaks them out!

I know! I thought he'll feel so much better with nice clean ears, get rid of all that gunk in there but Hector feels differently!!

I'm with Hector on this - I hate the swooshy, squelchy noises you get with ear drops myself!

He really does sound as if he's making good progress, bless him. :)

I'm very lucky he's so tolerant, if it was Pip or Tig I would be covered in bites and scratches. I feel like I'm always shoving something in his mouth or ears but he just takes it all and still comes for cuddles and fusses, he's a special lad that's had a rubbish run of luck with his health.

Hector had his check up this morning, for the first time the vet could see right to his ear drum, she said it showed signs of having been ruptured but was healing well. This would have been caused by the infection, she was really pleased with his progress and felt there was a marked improvement in his overall well being, he purred and head butted her. We've got one more check up next Friday once he's finished his AB's and then all being well we can put this episode behind us.

Thank you for all your vibes and fusses, it helps to be able to share x

We're back at the vet at 2pm, Hector has gone downhill in the last 24 hours and is back to hiding under the bed and his balance has deteriorated again. Strangely he seems worse in the morning and won't come downstairs for his food which he will in the evening. Keep your paws crossed for my lad, he's having such a rough time :(
