The next phase of the investigation into Boris's chewing issues is tomorrow. We're off to see a dental specialist in Manchester this time.

Again no food after 10:00 this evening. I just hope my boy is as well behaved as he was for his scan 3 weeks ago...

Oh, poor Boris, but hopefully they will get to the bottom of the problems for him. Give him a fuss from me.

Thanks for your best wishes. As usual I am more nervous than Boris this morning. I'm really not looking forward to the journey to Manchester as it'll be via the A34 which is not as smooth and straight as the journey on the M6/M56 we had to Frodsham a few weeks back.

I'll be in touch with more news later, hopefully of the good variety.....

Dropped Boris off at 10:30am. No issues with the journey at all. He is a good boy.

Lovely vet has taken him into his care for the day. He goes under this afternoon for investigation work and any treatment that may be needed. They may keep him overnight after the anaesthetic, but that all depends on how long Boris takes to come round.

I'm still crossing everything that he comes thorugh all this okay....

Thinking of you and Boris today Cathy. It sounds like he is in good hands. Will be an anxious wait for you. Keep us updated.

Pleased to hear Boris behaved on the journey. Keeping him overnight will give them a chance to keep him on the drip so he's really well hydrated. He'll be home again soon....

Hello all.
Picked Boris up yesterday evening. He's had 5 teeth out and a good ear cleaning. He had a really good feed at the vets & again once home. We had a small bout of howling at 2 am but after that he settled down and got some sleep.
He's had a little breakfast today & is now snuggled up with us in bed, purring his head off.
The food he's eaten so far has not been blended. Whilst a bit slower than normal he's coping with it without any noise. The teeth that were taken out were most likely grinding together, causing the noise & discomfort.
Currently we seem to have a happy, if perhaps a little sore cat.
Thanks again for all your wishes. It's great to have you all behind us.

Morning Team

After a good day Saturday, Boris had a bit of an off day yesterday and hardly ate anything. He was curled up asleep in his favourite chair nearly all day and was really very quiet. I'm putting this down to the vet advising we drop him off Metacam completely in the next week, so we'd started to wind down the dose as advised. However, I think his mouth is still sore so we upped it a little last night. The result is that this morning he was pestering for food at 5am. We've gone back to blending his food for him again today to ensure he's eating. Thus far he's had a pouch of Felix Senior and just a few minutes ago was begging for more, so he's also had half a pouch of Renal. Better than yesterday. He's now curled up asleep on our bed.

It's difficult to know what to do for the best, but hopefully inbetween a couple more days of blended food and weaning off the Metacam gently we can get him back on track.

Cathy, if it were me I think I'd keep him on the metacam and feed him a mix of solid and blended; then gradually as you reduce the metacam increase the solid food and see how he does.

Took your advice Ria & gave Boris blended food & a little solid tonight with a small dose of Metacam. He not only ate the lot but was after H's too! I'll continue like this in the hope he continues to improve.

Boris the walking dustbin is back in the room! He's been pestering for food constantly since 5am. He's had his breakfast and then I put down some dry food for him a while ago to see how he'd do. Gone in 30 seconds flat and then sat looking at me for more! He's had another small amount and that seems to have satisfied him.... for now....

He looks a lot brighter too. He's been outside for his usual wander around and then came to sit with me in the office before retiring to stretch out on the bed.

I really hope this continues....

Noodley had most of her teeth removed last year and I started cutting down her Metacam too early with a similar reaction, she became quite withdrawn and quiet so I gave her another week on the vets advice and she was fine

Is your puss okay with eating now having so few teeth? Boris yawned last night and I saw he has hardly any teeth left. I'm hoping he'll get back to eating normally by the time we go away in June. I really can't see our neighbour wanting to blend his food for him each meal

If it helps, my Grumpy Nellie has no teeth at all, and always finishes her dinner first out of my six. She eats wet and dry, and only struggles a little when we give them something like roast (or boiled) chicken, which I have to cut up smaller for her than I do the others.

Noodley has her fangs and tiny front teeth but nothing else but you'd never know!! Their gums harden pretty quickly evidently, Noodley only eats wet food - she's not keen on dry so I don't bother but she can eat a whole thrive dried treat chunk with no problems!!!

Tig also had his teeth removed (he and Noodle have FGS the oral virus associated with Calici), he eats mainly wet too (his preference) but on occasions he'll finish Hector's dried food with no problems and can also eat a Webbox treat!

I gave Tig a bit longer on the Metacam and Antirobe after his op (after Noodle's experience) and he was fine, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how well Boris copes.

Sorry Cathy, been off line for a few days. So pleased Boris is feeling better and eating properly. It sounds like they got to the root of the problem, he just has to recover from the surgery now. Most dentals my lot have had went smoothly but Mitz got a nasty infection in the tooth socket and was very poorly with it. A shot of Convenia sorted it out. That might have been Boris's problem? ie a bit of an infection, but it sounds like he's fought it off himself if he's eating again. Keep an eye on it though, as these things can fester a bit. Big hug to the big fella from us.

Hello all

Boris is going to see Steve later for a 1 week check up since having 5 teeth removed. I'm pleased to report that he's now not had Metacam for the last couple of days and is still eating well. He'll eat Felix straight out of the pouch but for some reason won't eat his renal food if it's not blended. That's of no real concern though and it only takes a minute to blend it so we'll continue doing that. He's back eating dry food quite happily too.

On the subject of the renal food... He was put onto it 2 yaers ago when he had his last Thyroid op. The pre-op bloods showed his kidney values to be at the high end of normal. However, in the last 2 months bloods he's had done pre-anaestetic have shown really good kidney and liver numbers. I am tempted to take him off his renal food, but then I stop myself doing that in case it's that that is preserving his kidney function. Thoughts?

All in all he's looking acting much happier. He's washed himself more in the last couple of days than he has in weeks. His fur is wonderful!

Really pleased to hear Boris is doing so well Cathy. I know your dilemma with the renal food. Lily's renal values went through the roof after one of her ops (to remove bladder stones I think), so she's been on the diet and pills ever since, but her bloods have been pretty good lately. However, I suspect if I took her off this regime it would soon be back to square one, so in your position I'd keep Boris on it too. After all, you'd never tell a diabetic to come off the insulin as their blood levels seem "normal" while they're on it.
