Hypoglycemic kittens

Someone on another forum (hedgehogs) I belong to is looking for advice re hand rearing hypoglycemic kittens. Anyone here have any experience so I could put her in touch with you please? Thanks

It depends on a lot of factors, mainly low blood sugar would be a temp thing as when you first get them they may not have been fed for a while, this can be fixed with glucose fluids or a spot of honey on their tongues, or even if desperate a drop of boiled water sweetened with sugar, however if they are taking the formula and still the blood sugar remains low then it would need investigation by a vet. If older might need to start solids so depends how old they are too.

Did a vet diagnose this as the definite problem to start with?

thanks for the replies and apologies for not coming back sooner

The person with the kitten is working very closely with the vet who is also stumped and suspects that it may be down to a very traumatic birth and a possible infection - so they're fighting from all angles. They've been put in touch with someone who has some experience and looking at a cat diabetes site for more advice

Little one apparently is gaining weight so hopefully heading in the right direction
