Very sick kitty

Post by SarahTownie »

Hello,

I am new to this site, I am trying to reach out to all other cat owners to see if there is a possibility that someone may have gone through the same thing I am going through right now with my cat.

My cat is 10 years old, she is an indoor cat, and she has always been healthy. A little over a week ago my husband and I came downstairs to see she had vomited everywhere. It wasn't food vomit, it was stomach bile. We found her hiding, and she was hacking, gagging, retching, extending her neck out to bring something up, and sometimes vomiting, or sometimes nothing would come up. There was no hair in her vomit at all. She would try to eat, but then throw it up a few mins later, she would try to drink, but couldn't keep it down. So we thought maybe something was caught in her throat, or she swallowed something she shouldn't have. We were going to wait that day, and if she didn't get better by the next day we were going to take her to the vet. She didn't get better. We took her to the vet, they did an x-ray which showed her heart, and lungs were in perfect condition. They also said her stomach, and intestines looked great. They couldn't tell me anything else, they injected her with fluids, and Cerenia and sent us home. The medicine lasted a day and a half and she was right back to being sick again. I called the vet upset, they told us to come in and they did a blood test, it came back normal. They did a thyroid test, and it came back normal. They explained she may have inflammatory bowel disease, or cancer, or pancreatitis. They suggested an ultra sound, and a VDI-TK test, then handed me a $700 bill estimate for both those tests. They told me to try out Budesonide steroids on her for 2 weeks, they gave us some Cerenia to take home, they gave her fluids, and injected her with vitamin B12.

The day after that visit, my cat was showing signs of upper respiratory infection, I called the vet and they prescribed her a general antibiotic, and viral antibiotic. It has been 5 days now, we are on a 2 day break from Cerenia (vets orders). Today and tomorrow is going to show me if the Budesonide is working on her or not.

I am at a loss, I love my cat very much, I spent all the money in my checking, and most of my savings and even extended the amount on my credit cards to ensure she gets seen and treated. But I am going nuts with what is going on with her. How are her x-rays, blood work, and thyroid tests all coming back normal and she is so sick??? I have called so many vets asking for second opinions, they all said the way my vet is doing things is how they would do it to. Slowly ruling everything out.

There has to be someone that has gone through what I am going through now, I haven't found one person so far that has had similar symptoms that my cat has and Im going insane.

Hi Sarah. I am sorry that your little cat is so poorly. I have no advice to offer only that I hope your vet will be able to find out what the problem is and make her well again.

Hopefully, someone with a little more experience than me will be able to offer you some advice.

Meanwhile, my thoughts are with you and Kitty.

((Hugs)) Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Best wishes

Grace

Poor you, it sounds awful. Things may have on by now, but did they test her for something as obvious as an object stuck in her throat? I hope she's doing ok.

Hi Sarah,
I can see your post is over a year old now, but I am interested to learn whether you were able to find a resolution to the problem your cat had, as I am going through a very similar experience as you with my cat now and am also at breaking point!
Many Thanks
Victoria
