Kitty with thymoma

My 15-year old cat has been diagnosed with a thymoma, a non-malignant tumor of the thymus that is pressing against her lungs. The surgery that has been suggested sounds extremely invasive and high risk because they have to cut through the sternum and resection the ribs in order to remove the tumor. I am looking for anyone whose senior cat has had this surgery, what the post-op recovery period is really like, and whether your cat pulled through just fine or experienced serious complications.

Personally, I'm not sure I'd put a cat that age through something so invasive. I think you need to ask a few questions such as the kind of recovery, what kind of complications etc. Has she had blood tests recently?
