Cats jaw clicking.

Hi all. Does anyone know why my Rory's jaw has started clicking? Its mainly when he eats although it doesn't seem to bother him and he's eating fine. It sometimes happens when he yawns and licks his lips after eating. He's otherwise well and I have an appointment at the vets on Monday but I'm worried its something horrible.
Would I be able to tell if it was painful for him? He likes me to scratch under his chin and around his jawline and he's still letting me do that. He's not drooling or touching his mouth with his paw. Apart from the clicking he's acting completely normal.
He's six years old, neutered and up to date with flea and worming treatments.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi and welcome.

I'm afraid I've never had any experience of something like this, in a lifetime of cats - but I do think it's a good sign that he's carrying on as normal AND also enjoying his chin tickles and fusses as normal - any pain and he'd wince or growl, any swelling you'd notice.

I know it's a long time to wait until Monday - and totally hellish when you're so worried - but you're doing the right thing in getting him checked out and I do hope the examination brings reassuring news.

Let us know how you go on, all the very best to you and Rory x :)

I've not come across this either, but I agree with Lilith in that the fact that he's not showing any sign of distress is a good sign. Good luck for Monday. :)

I know your post is old but my cat Daisy is having the same exact issue. I am wondering if you can tell me what the outcome was... I went to the vet today and he looked in her mouth and said everything looked good. He said I should just keep an eye on it. It worries me though.
