Our cats have fallen out
Our cats have fallen out
We have 2 cats, a mother and her daughter aged 8 and 6 years old. 3 days ago the mother had to go for surgery to have a tooth removed. Since her return her daughter hisses and growls at her then leaves the room. She then takes to yeowling around the house which in the past I interpreted as her calling for her Mum. Is there anything I can do to assist them back to their old comfortable curl up together ways?

This often happens, it's because mum cat came home smelling of vets instead of her usual comfortable 'home' smell. It should right itself in time, but you can help by rubbing each in turn to 'scent swop' and speed things along a bit. Keep us posted.

I agree, it's the vet smell that's doing it. Try rubbing mum puss with a blanket that smells of her, and/or younger puss, so that her smell is more familiar. If necessary, keep them segregated for a few days and then reintroduce them slowly under careful supervision, but once she starts smelling normal again, things should return to normal. Try to stay very calm and relaxed about this, and keep all their other routines as normal as you can, so that they don't pick up on any anxiety. You could try getting a Feliway diffuser in as well to help them chill out.

It was the same with my two. Poor sonny always returned traumatised after a visit to the vets and a car journey, just so glad to be back home and then cher would hiss and swipe at him making him feel much worse poor soul. She would stay away from I'm some times for days, especially after an op. It is strange they were so close usually. After the smells dissappear she went back to loving him just the same though so try not to worry.
